When one person does something like this, you may chalk it up to "mental illness". I don't understand a group of people doing something so heinous like this to a homeless person. I suppose they could all be severely mentally ill, but there's likely another explanation. (not a good one, however)

It goes to the herd mentality, the pack of boys eventually kill Piggy. Independently they likely would not have done so. It’s almost as if they feed off of each other.

Inhumane behavior

 

decision making research has shown repeatedly that groups often make more extreme decisions on the average than individuals. When it happens it’s called group polarization. It’s not a mental health issue per se but a flaw in how humans make meaning and decisions in groups.

 

This is the rare tragedy that can't be fully capitalized by any particular emotional manipulator. Minority assailants, but also minority victim. No mention of citizenry status, they may be good ol' Mericans. And the victim was homeless, with a colostomy bag, so it's tough to make hay out of that either direction. And to cap it off, gas was only $2.95, so that ruins a whole different grievance.

 

The library at school asked me my favorite book, and I said this one. They made a big banner saying “Ask Mr. Emmitto about A Clockwork Orange!” Awk-ward!!
