Cyr and Torres from Miami are in it. I have a feeling there is going to be some big names entering this season.
I would say defense could certainly use some range. We’re losing three guys in the infield too, and possibly three guys in the outfield.
He’s got two years of bargaining power, so I could see it. He could definitely earn himself some money with a good year. Definitely losing Cags, Dale, Albert, and Shelnut. Could lose Ty and Mikey, definitely losing Guy. Mikey has two years of bargaining power. Ty loses his power coming back, so would assume he goes if he gets halfway decent money.
Florida just landed Landon Stripling (INF) from Texas Tech. Went to Parkview Hs in Georgia. Was supposed to be top 5 round pick. Originally from Winter Haven. Add him with the JU transfer.
Very average stats at best. Is he a great fielder? Depth piece? **edit didn't realize he was a FR. Seems to have great potential. Welcome aboard!!
I'm guessing this is more about how we viewed him as a high school recruit and less about his one year at Tech.
Anyone will be better than Guy, Russell and Albert. I would have included Wilson, however the kid has turned into a stud!!
Very curious where these guys are slotted defensively. Some chatter from TT that Stripling didn't want to play 1b. We know Kurland doesn't have the arm for the left side so he is limited to 2b. Hopefully Stripling is ok at 3b and the JU kid can slide to the left side....3b if Shelton stays
Landon Stripling's bio from the TT site.... PERSONAL: Born in Winter Haven, Fla. …grew up in Lawrenceville, Ga. …son of Jason and Meghan Stripling… brother to Christian Taylor (27) and Bryson Stripling (20)... nephew of current Oakland Athletics pitcher Ross Stripling… majoring in business management
Stripling hit 253 in his freshman season and mainly played either first base or as the DH, starting in 24 games. His best game was against Texas Southern where he batted 7 times, got 5 hits, including a double and 2 homeruns, scored 4 runs and had 7 RBIs. The final score was 32-5 so take that one as a grain of salt. Some good news that should make Gator fans happy. In 99 at bats he only struck out 12 times but got 17 walks. Kid might have some developing to do but seems like a good prospect with good pedigree to see what he can do.
Parkview is a powerhouse program and was loaded in 2023. Their SS Colin Houck was a first rounder but Stripling actually put up better stats. Not sure what his best position will be going forward as he is a stocky 5’11 but he can swing it from the left side and hopefully can be a major contributor next season.
jd— I will never understand the ink on the paper to sign Guy. What a waste, no more than a dressed up out. He wasn’t even particularly good on defense either.
Funny thing is after watching Guy in the Fall I thought he would be even worse than he was - just didn't look like a D1 hitter. Early on he had a decent on base percentage and low strike out percentage (which I guess was the justification for playing him) but the at bats were generally dreadful. Reminded me a lot of Richie last year - weaker hitter than Robertson and no better defensively but we kept running him out there.
Mat— Yeah, I don’t know what Robertson may have done or said to get in Sully’s doghouse because he was much better defensively than Guy. Both of them had more than their share of struggles with the bat but Guy got a lot of playing time. And naturally it seemed like every time he came up to bat we had runners on base in scoring position—and we all know how that turned out.
