Auburn names Chris and Kate Malveaux Co-Head Softball Coaches - Auburn University Athletics (auburntigers.com) I didnt have this hire(s) on my radar. Not sure how I feel about the co HC approach, why cant one just be a asst? Do they split a HC salary, or is Aub spending moe than they should? lol Strictly SB wise, no complaints on resume(s) We shall see. "In its preseason list of top 10 assistant coaching hires during the 2021 offseason, Extra Inning Softball tabbed Malveaux's hiring as the No. 1 assistant coach addition in the country."
Seems like his resume very much calls for a HC position while hers really doesn't. Wonder if they approached him and he wanted it to be set up this way? Maybe for recruiting purposes. I've never quite understood the co coach thing, somebody has to make the ultimate decisions
Both should be good hires. The big advantage is these coaches already have SEC experience so no learning curve.
This is not that unusual. Ralph and Karen Weekly were co-head coaches for the Volunteers from 2002-2021.
yep they were, and I think it was always obvious Karen was the 'CEO' . Not sure how many other co HCs out there, but still a bit out of LF imo.
I think it's very unusual for baseball/softball.....can't think of another example beyond the one you named and UVA. I'm sure there have been, but it's still unusual
This years recruited seniors were Ralph’s recruits. Talked with him two years go when we played Tennessee at KSP. He sat in the seats in front of us. Very interesting guy. He told us about serving in the United States Air Force intelligence corp and that indirectly got him in women softball at Pacific Lutheran University by starting the softball team because they needed a coach and had working with their baseball team.
