I have Wilber in my top-ten list of all-time Gators that I also followed in the NFL, USFL, CFL, AFL, or AAF. I grew up overseas, so my exposure to the Gators was rather sparse. Wilber Marshall stood out as the greatest player on defense that I can remember from my childhood. Tim Tebow 2006-2009 Emmitt Smith 1987–89 Steve Spurrier 1964–66 Wilber Marshall 1980–83 Danny Wuerffel 1993–96 Rex Grossman III 1999-2002 Percy Harvin III 2006-08 Reggie Nelson 2005-2006 Brandon Spikes 2006-09 Neal Anderson 1982–85 Honorable mention: Kerwin D. Bell 1984–87
Winners in this game (not necessarily in this order): 1) Wilber Marshall 2) Gator Getters Losers in this game: USC coaches wearing Sans-a-Belt Slacks
FYI, this list was cherry picked from the top Gators in the UF Athletics HOF ranked by the accolades earned. I had to project where Tim Tebow, Percy Harvin, Reggie Nelson, Brandon Spikes would be on this list and then pick my top 10. Wes Chandler is ranked at #7. I am too young to have watched Wes, so he did not make my personal top 10, but his accolades rank him as one of the 10 greatest Gators.
He also didn’t get to play on national championship teams which that list is kind of loaded with players from three different teams.
