If you receive a text message purportedly from "Sunpass" alerting you to pay an outstanding toll to avoid "excessive late fees," it is a phishing scam. If you click on the link it takes you to an extremely realistic looking website asking you to enter your telephone and social security numbers. DO NOT DO THIS. Per Sun Pass: 1. Any text message from them will come from 786 727 2. Sun Pass will NEVER send you a text with a link for payment. 3. You may report an attempt at: www.IC3.gov (FBI)
Good intel - thank you. ANYONE who contacts you unsolicited asking for your social security number is out of line and should be reported to authorities immediately.
Appreciate the tip. I do this and recommend it to others. If you ever get an email or text asking you to click on a link…. Don’t. Look up a phone number or web address separately and contact them yourself directly to confirm. This one strategy will prevent you from falling victim to 99.9999% of phishing scams out there
I ignore all texts and emails I don’t recognize and immediately delete them. If you’re unsure of its legitimacy, always stay on the side of caution and at least Google the number first and call SunPass (or the business reaching out) at their business number to confirm.
I normally don't click on the links, but I did on this one as my secretary had just received a notice of an unpaid toll and the photo was not of her car. I have those SunPass stickers on all of my cars, so I knew this was a mistake, too. I was surprised at the job these thieves did creating a website that looked so much like the official Sun Pass website. It will fool a lot of people. BTW, the E-Pass people in Orlando get the option to purchase a GatorPass. Sun pass should offer those. CFX
Back to the college E-Pass I referenced in post #9 above, does anyone know why SunPass doesn't offer these? I'd replace mine in a heartbeat and pay a premium for them. Found the answer in the FAQs: "Q: Who is responsible for managing CollegePass? A: The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) launched its first branded E-PASS partnership with Florida State University (FSU), the University of Central Florida (UCF), and the University of Florida (UF) just in time for the 2016-2017 college football season. This multi-year, exclusive partnership between CFX and FSU, UCF and UF is designed to meet the needs of a loyal, traveling fan base while offering the same discounts and benefits exclusive to E-PASS customers.
