I could argue 2011 and 2016 were better, but 2017 had great pitching and clutch hitting and won it all. I still thing 2020 was a great team but we will never know.
I watch them win or lose. They were 1 game over .500 at the time . Teams typically don’t get in the Tournament with that kinda resume. It is like your trying to drag me and inflate yourself. This team will hopefully make a run and plays their best ball at the end.
I’m still pretty proud of our 2005 CWS team as well. Remember in the Supers vs FSU the over the shoulder running/sliding catch that Justin Tordi made about half way down the LF line in foul territory sliding into the tarp? Quickly followed by that pop up and throwing a bullet to Brandon MacArthur who then beat their speedster Shane Robinson to 3rd base, made the tag play ending their inning…. Yep, I remember that too…
Nice….why the vitriol reply unless you have a problem being a man and admitting you were way over the top. You can throw shit out there but can’t take a little call out of throwing the team under the bus….nice
IMHAWIO, it’s playing with house money now. They have exceeded my admittedly modest expectations and seem to have found a fire that seemed feeble this season.
The chairman of the selection committee said the Gators were one of the last teams selected, but they got in over other bubble teams based on their #1 SOS and their solid RPI in spite of their W-L record. They've been very consistent about rewarding teams who play strong schedules out of conference and the Gators have proven deserving by making it to a Super. Best streak of pitching they've had all year - just at the right time, too. Hope they can keep it up and upset Clemson.
Yes - fantastic team. We just ran into a Texas buzzsaw. I hosted a party for game one and I don't really remember a lot of the first game
The relief pitching the last few games has been what has (pleasantly) surprised me the most. Neely's performance yesterday was just masterful. Almost all season, in my head, I was often thinking, "I sure miss Michael Byrne." Well, Neely stepped up just like him yesterday. And today, I figured we were just done, given all the pitchers we had previously used. Nothing I saw in the season prepared me for the performance we saw the last 2 days. I love Gator baseball, and I am so happy to see the guys stepping up like this in such a pressure-packed, must-win situation. I really think this regional win will give them the confidence they need to win the super regional against Clemson. I think we all knew the talent was there. It showed up just enough to get us in the playoffs. Now, I think the team has come together and is poised to make their run to Omaha. If they do, I plan to be there! Sorry for the ramble, but I am just so happy that somehow this team pulled of this regional win.
I was just reflecting on the statement that this one is on the coaches and it hit me, this one is on the selection committee. They took the bold move to include a team many thought would not get in, myself included. So here's a salute to the committee.
