Agreed. It was cool while it lasted but it's become a town full of superficial narcissists.

Not much to debate honestly. It's a transparent move to protect against the possibility that Texas overall flips blue from a pure statewide numbers standpoint. It's not something being proposed in good faith because there's no possibility of the majority of counties flipping blue. Smaller counties still get their representation via their district in state legislature but they shouldn't have outsized influence in deciding who serves from a statewide perspective.

I don't want to live in a direct Democracy no. It would be complete chaos. Do you really want a country where we would have to have elections on every single law? How much would that cost? I want to live in a Representative Republic where our politicians represent everyone, not just the elite in the cities. I want our Federal Representatives to represent all 50 states, not just New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles like you want. You're the one who's the hypocrite. You would be the one screaming "NO REPRESENTATION!" if it was the cities who were Conservative and the rural areas who were Liberals. So it's a good thing we live in a Representative Republic and not a direct Democracy.

You are the one who wants the vast majority of the country ignored. You are the one who wants the coastal city elites to determine all elections. You are the one incapable of understanding that the concerns of someone in rural middle America are going to be different than the concerns of someone who lives in San Francisco. Yet you only want to worry about the concerns of the person in San Francisco. You could care less about the concerns of te person in rural middle America.

We should all have designated successors to our accounts should the worst happen to us. A memorial brick is a nice gesture for those that have passed on, but what I really want is someone to continue posting my annoying commie shit in perpetuity and rack up the bacon from right-wingers.

District representatives that are swiftly and easily ignored and drowned out. How much influence do you think areas in upstate New York really have on New York state politics? They're drowned out by the New York City needs and representatives. How much influence do you think southern Illinois has in Illinois state politics? The Chicago political machine all but laughs at the rest of Illinois. I bet J.B. Pritzker has never stepped foot in 90% of Illinois. Heck I bet the only two places he's ever been in Illinois is the Chicago area and Springfield (reluctantly I'm sure).

You are the one who wants cities to have an outsized influence in state politics. You are the one who wants politicians to be able to win a state office in Texas without ever having to leave Houston, Dallas, Austin or San Antonio. Forget everyone else in the state.

Yawn. Narrative. Does California have expensive real estate? Yes. Is it because of a high demand to live in those areas? Yes. Does high prices reflect many people voting that they want to live a place? Yes, unless you are a commie who doesn't believe in free market forces. Are you are a commie?

I think you should nominate Orlando’s mom. She’s done such a bang up job capturing his essence that I can’t tell them apart.

No - I want them to have proportional influence to the amount of people they represent. If you only represent 50 people in your county then you probably shouldn't have a lot of say in statewide politics. Should you have a vote same as everyone else? Absolutely, but you shouldn't be a driving force.

Oh right, I forgot I was dealing with a right-winger and you get confused by the term 'democracy' because you think it can only mean direct democracy. So I will rephrase my comment to 'This makes no sense unless you don't want to live in a democratic republic'.

You are so wrong, that representative absolutely should have significant say in statewide politics. Even if you cover 1 person you should have significant say in statewide politics. You don't even understand what you are saying. You are flat out saying you believe the rural communities should be second class citizens. That their voices should be silenced.

Sounds far more like a dictatorship to me than a Representative Republic.

And history shows us that any country with a class system will ultimately fail. You make people second class citizens, you take away their voice, that's when you get revolutions.

People like you that would take away the voices of rural Americans, that alone gives more than enough justification for statewide offices to require a candidate to win the majority of the counties in that state. To avoid exactly what you would want, rural communities to be discarded and ignored.

Seems fair that if 1/50 is adequate representation that should apply to everyone in the state. If I end up with 1/10,000 representation just because I live somewhere else that isnt democracy at all.

And it's really interesting with her son at death's door in a coma, she's focusing on this message board. I guess we all have different priorities in life.

Then don't be crying when that 1/50 stop sending their food to your 1/10,000 and all your stores go empty. Heck rural areas (as a percentage of their population) send far more troops to the military than the cities. Can we also assume your city people will start taking more roles and responsibilities in the military? So many of you city people have forgotten you who truly rely on for survival.

You're free to believe whatever you want. IMO proportional representation is the most fair to everyone in the state to count their voices as equitably as possible.

Texas is free to do what they like as well but they may not be happy when these tech firms start leaving Austin and find a new state. Who knows though, that may be exactly what the legislature wants.

There are more murders, drugs and crime as 'percentage of the population' in rural areas too, that just how math works bro. If a place with a population of 2 has one death, its the deadliest place in the world.

Representative Republic, please get it right. It's not hard. A Democratic Republic would once again mean all citizens would vote on all issues which would mean chaos. You do realize that's why we have a House of Representatives right? Under a Democracy or Democratic Republic th ere would be no House of Representatives.

Here I'll even give you the official terminology:

By definition, a republic is a representative form of government that is ruled according to a charter, or constitution, and a democracy is a government that is ruled according to the will of the majority.

Never said rural areas didn't have challenges. In fact it's a good point, how long has our Federal Government ignored the adject poverty and drug issues that occur in Appalachia for example? How many times has Biden even bothered to visit West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee and the western part of Virginia?

If New York City were having the same challenges he would consider it an emergency that required immediate action and attention. But because it's rural and it's Appalachia and they didn't vote for him. Well screw them right?
