because the dems are too feckless to do it and they couldn't get enough votes from the pubs to cover the dems that would be at risk if they voted to do it

Still getting your financial updates from Cletus down at the waffle house?

People still dense enough to support trump aren't smart enough to have capital gains.

What a kind, respectful post. I takes just a few minutes per visit to remind me why I don't post here often.

    Meet Cletus.
President Biden Has Proposed Tax Increases. Here Are 6 Of Them

I guess none of these guys are smart enough to pay cap gains tax.
Prominent billionaires from Wall Street to Silicon Valley are warming up to Donald Trump

Well yes I do. I would couple them with spending freezes and caps. You see I am a conservative who likes a balanced budget and am willing to pay for it.

For too long both parties have been taxing the middle class while lowering the taxes on the rich. All of these taxes would make our system less regressive. I also would like fewer loopholes. I pay the alternative minimum now because almost all my income comes from tax free munis

Well if we held our elected officials accountable and demanded a balanced budget it would happen.

The dirty secret is both parties are pro spending anti taxes. They just want to spend on different things. The weird thing is both parties usually want to tax the middle class and not the rich. The dems also don’t want to tax the poor.

And those are the people who have the moral integrity to be honest as to why they support Trump.

It's amazing to me people trump is looking out for them and their taxes, much less the deficit.

What policies does Triump support that you oppose? What Biden policies opposed by Trump do you support?

I would disagree somewhat. Although both parties are pro spending the difference is that one of them at least to some extent supports an agenda of tax and spend and is vilified for it. The primary agenda of the other party which claims to be fiscally conservative is that of keeping taxes low especially for higher income taxpayers and corporations and although they never explicitly state it the reality of that policy is one of borrow and spend.

Looks good to me. We need some tax increases. How else are we going to pay down the debt?

Oh, wait - you're still living in magic Trumpublican world where we should just repeatedly cut taxes claiming it will help the debt, watch the deficits go up....then repeat the process several years later.

After taking a break to reflect and think about some things - time well spent - I returned to read this curious response to a post made 9 months ago in September, 2023. In that post I commented on my "not - so - bright housekeeper."

What do you think me "admitting 'you' hire dumb people" says about me? How does me being "judge mental" factor into your analysis? How does one person judge another to be "dumb"? That is an observation determined from observing the actions and decisions of the person being observed.

Our housekeeper/nurses aide is competent to do what her CNA training taught her and she takes excellent care of us and our needs. She was hired because she is loyal, dependable, and trustworthy. She was not hired to share or discuss her take on current events or recent conspiracy theories. When she does share these things I do not generally shut down or refuse to listen to what she says as it keeps me informed about what is currently making the rounds in her circle of acquaintance. It's not a matter of judging her to be less intelligent but more observing how the lack or absence of critical thinking skills has caused her much grief and regret.

I have known her for almost six years, as she was working for our son and family as a housekeeper and general manager / rental agent of a duplex they own and rent to CMU students. She is capable of handling that responsibility and knows what to do if tenants cause unforeseen problems.

She is a good and decent person with a generous heart - to a point - but Trump caught her attention and she will likely remain in his corner until the evil destroying apocalypse she anticipates with the return of Jesus and all will be corrected, all wrongs made right.

Last week she told us there is a tunnel deep underground, running continuously from the Denver airport to Maine. Its purpose is to traffic children kidnapped for illegal and immoral sexual acts. She will not listen to reason that excavating a tunnel that deep running that distance under rivers and cities is nigh on impossible or that it would be impossible to keep secret if it did actually exist. Thinking she must have misunderstood what she heard or read from some bizarre source I asked her if she had ever heard of the underground railroad that came into existence before the Civil War to assist escaping slaves to make their way north to freedom. She refused to say and exhibited zero curiosity, failing to make the connection the Denver airport tunnel was a possible term for a clandestine system rather than an actual physical structure.

My not so bright housekeeper has been scammed at least twice. The first time victimized by a scheme out of Nigeria. She even went to Africa to attempt to recover the more than $20,000 she lost. Her own family, each one of her 2 brothers and sister have swindled money from her or refused to repay "borrowed" funds. Despite a $10,000 loss to the elder brother 10 years ago, she co-signed a $50,000 loan for him to buy out his divorced wife's half of the home they jointly owned. She and her brother had a verbal agreement he would make the loan payments. He made only two payments, then bought a Harley Davidson motorcycle to join the two other bikes already in his garage. Housekeeper was forced to make payments on this co-signed loan from her already over stretched budget and it broke her.

Some months before she co-signed this loan for her brother she had received and saved a solicitation for debt consolidation in the mail and without investigating the advertised debt consolidation company or doing any necessary research, she signed on and wrote a sizeable check before discovering she had once again been scammed.

She has now filed for bankruptcy and continues to rail about the "evil" people who perpetrate these scams, asking why their swindling schemes are not stopped, failing to see they will likely exist as long as there are gullible people taking the bait.

What a travail for this poor woman. In the end though, a victim of her own lack of critical thinking - as we all are. I understand your empathy. For sure i have a number of “Doh” moments and many instances of “If Only”. But you live and try to learn.

I used to believe in that tunnel also, until they initiated construction on a new light rail line behind my house in Maryland and I became pretty familiar with the imminent domain payment process. Now I think the imminent domain payments for land seizures on that tunnel would be pretty cost prohibitive, so I'm just not sure about it.....
