Whatever they do, they were going to do anyway. They don't need provocation or reason to abuse power. They hate people that disagree with them and will do whatever harm they can anyway, legally or illegally, without provocation

100000%. Republicans are a bottomless pit of bad faith and there's no point in entertaining their threats.

Can someone point out where all the Republican politicians called out Trump for extorting Ukraine to investigate Biden? That's exactly what they're up in arms about now, right?

Do you know why Hillary wasn't prosecuted for her email server and why Biden wasn't prosecuted for classified docs? It's because there wasn't a case that could get a conviction from a jury, not because they took some moral high ground.

Just look at this term of Congress - they've been desperately investigating Biden hoping they can find something, anything. They're saying they'll retaliate in the future BUT THEY'VE ALREADY BEEN DOING IT. They just can't find a crime.

I say bring it on because despite some weird twisting of reality claiming that Biden said the word and Trump was suddenly convicted, this had to go through the entire legal process. Trump can't just throw anyone in jail - they'd have to be convicted by a jury same as Trump was.

When you truly believe the things that so many of them apparently believe, that would make you really angry. That the election was stolen. That J6 was really a liberal set-up. That all the charges against Trump are fake. Etc. Etc.
I just made the mistake of responding elsewhere to a woman who is convinced the judge would not allow Trump or any defense witnesses to testify. That the judge ruled that the verdicts did not have to be unanimous ...
Basically, that the country is being stolen from them.
How do we ever get close to being on the same page when that kind of stuff is taken as gospel?

Peggy Noonan had a really well thought out oped on this. She didn’t blame a side but said the whole country is descending into tribalism.

EVERYTHING STARTS AT HOME. I firmly believe that many in the two generations behind mine (I was born in 1943) are failing us. This is primarily because of terrible parenting and below par school systems. There is no way those in the 25-55 age group would be so aggressive and violent in words and/or deed unless it was either encouraged or tolerated by their parents (and in some cases, their churches).

You think school systems are responsible for tribalism, aggressive, and violent behavior?

No. That wasn't my point, which was that I don't think they're requiring all students from middle school on to take classes in history, government and civics. They ought to be emphasized to the same extent English and other core subjects are.

To be fair, I'm far removed from the public school system, but we do have friends who are or were teachers. That, plus what I read, leads me to my post.

So dumb…. As if Republicans have been giving democrats a pass on breaking the law up til now…. Glad to see democrats did not act like with for Melendez or Corrine Brown…. I guess they are political prisoners who should be above the law.

I have faith that the younger generations will surpass us. I am 58 my children are in their 20s they are great. Their generation will surpass us in every way. Those who vote for trump are primarily the old and the stupid. I worry that as life expectancy increases and birth rates continue collapsing we will never be rid of the old and ossified.

I blame your generation. The first in US history to leave less to their progeny than they were given. Boomer dads were worthless as parents compared to the last 2 generations.

When I think of my children, I must agree, but they face obstacles we didn't, and I'm not sure they are as confident of the future as we were. (I'm - gasp! - 80.)
