Miami in points allowed per game last year is between Tenn and Mizz (we averaged 30 against them) so you are probably on the low end with looking at averages, especially with a qb in the first year of the system last year. Miami played a terrible schedule and really struggled.
It will be close in the first half and UF's defense will clamp down in the second half and UF will walk away. 28-13
There is a list of the top 25 teams with the most players currently in the NFL and 11 of those teams are in the SEC. That means at least 69% of the SEC conference has a lot of NFL level talent. All conferences are top heavy but the SEC's top and mid are ridiculous. The closest conference was the Big 10 with 5 schools. ACC had 2 schools on the list. It is no longer the 90's. The SEC dominates recruiting and NIL
I agree with all of the analysis up until the bottom line that Florida “hammers” Miami. I want that, but it is not any more in evidence than the casual assumption that Miami can win in Gainesville on the basis of their underwhelming performance last season. We will see. Go Gators!
Certain venues (the Swamp specifically) will carry another point premium because of how difficult it is to win there.
All in how it’s presented by leadership. I see people in this country get themselves worked up about stuff that happened a lot longer ago than that. Nothing should be off the off the table when it comes to motivating this team putting in the hours this offseason.
If you count sacks as passing, then on the season 2023 UF passed more than ran, 429 pass vs 382 run. So, it's in his DNA.
Top 15 are subjective polls. You're as good as your W/L record says you are. But if what you and many say about Miami being just another weak team is true, then we should easily win by three TDs. There, I feel better already...that is, unless we lose. We'll need to explain that talent and conference edge all over again...that is, after we throw Billy, a coordinator or a luckless player under the bus for the loss.
Two different things can be true at the same time: UF was a bad team with a tough schedule and Miami was a bad team with easy schedule. I'm not sure why you feel you need to prop up the ACC. If you think your record is who you are, become a fan of Noth Dakota State. They are by far the best team in the world in that analysis.
I've heard many people on here say that "Your record is who you are." That's an NFL quote. (Parcells.) And it applies in the NFL because of parity and just 32 teams. But in college that doesn't apply. There's 100 teams and the schedules are wildly different. Just to compare Miami and Florida... We played 4 teams that finished in the top 12 plus a good Utah team at their place. (Plus #17 Tennessee.) Miami's played 1 top 10 team and 1 other top 20 team. That's it. NOW- can they beat us? Oh yeah. We looked like dog crap vs Utah and if we open like that again we will lose to the Canes. But our 5-7 was more impressive than their 7-6, based on our schedules. To be clear- both teams sucked.
Definitely varies by team, but as a whole it's generally 2.5 from what I have seen. Doesn't matter for this game as it is the opener and oddsmakers are just making their best educated guesses. FWIW I believe this is going to be a very close game. Our history with sloppy ass play in openers worries me.
Miami is the second most talented team in the ACC. UF and Miami are very similar talent wise. This is a rivalry game and they are always played at a higher level and usually very competitive. The Gator's have a few advantages; our quarterback is in his 2 year with the same system a system he knows and runs well (Miami's QB is just learning the system). I feel our defensive staff is better than Miami's and should be an advantage in the second half, which of course needs to be proven. And it is in the swamp! Like i said it is a rivalry game so anything can happen, but I do feel like Florida is the stronger team.
Different league. Except for the very top of the conferences, P5 teams of equal records aren't that far apart. As for propping up the ACC, let's just say I still despise the SEC for what they did to us 40 years ago. I still remember.
Too much living in the past. And it is P4 now. But more correctly should be P2 with 2 tag alongs hoping to get gobbled up.
Pat Dooley has said for years that no one hates Florida like Miami fans, and it’s probably true. It’s the flop, the cancellation of the annual series, the various last-minute field goal incidents, etc. It’s two fanbases that just do not get along at all.
