Well since you dont post about all crimes committed, we are simply remarking about the ones you choose to curate for us

 

One single word "thugs" that was interpreted by some as being racist and this thread became nasty. Oh did I mention it wasn't the "Magats" or the "Trumpaloons" who turned it nasty. As usual it was the Village idiots.

 

I agree that they are thugs. I also agree that they should be locked up, however, carjackings are a common occurrence in the USA and failed carjackings are hardly noteworthy or thread-deserving material. The use of the word "thug" is no longer simply to denote those who engage in thuggish behavior. I understand that in your social circles, it may not be obvious to you what has been happening for the past 20 or so years, but I assure you that many other groups are aware of the shift in that word's usage.

 

I can't speak for anyone else, but you can search my entire posting history and you won't catch one incident of me name-calling or insulting another poster.

 

If you balance it out and post crimes committed by all races and political parties and we might believe your intentions. The response to this thread is more of an indictment upon your posting credibility than it is about the actual crime.

 

I agree murph but take a look at some other posters, might I suggest a guy with the letters JMDZ in his name.

Here are his last 6 posts. I'd say at least 5 of them were intended to insult someone. Note he has a way of name calling or insulting without doing it directly.

 

If it makes you feel any better, he blocked me for (I guess in his view) insulting him, you just need to work a little harder to not see these posts

Well, I just was clearing it up for anyone who was potentially accusing me of any particular behavior. I try my best to be respectful of all people here, even if we have different views.

 

We agree on what you just stated, so there is no need for you to disagree. Unfortunately , the word “thug” itself has been co-opted and no longer can be trusted to just mean thug when it is used. If people of questionable intent use the word, it raises eyebrows.

Liberals did not redefine the word “thugs”. Other groups began using it in a certain way, which is what added a separate connotation to the term. For example, when a black athlete who was otherwise a law abiding citizen got in any type of trouble, they were branded as thugs, while a white athlete like Ben Roethlisberger would not get generally get called a thug for worse accusations or allegations.

We are not imagining things. It is real.

 

I just can’t agree with this. I recall Roethlisberger, in particular, being called a thug. He was accused of sexual assault, and I don’t recall him getting any sort of “pass.”

It might be that I’m not tuned to that use of the word as you describe it, but I hadn’t heard it used as a race-negative term before.

 

I cant really tell when people are using it seriously, ironically or as a sort of "corrective justice" thing. Our Jan 6th thread has "thugs" in the title. I've called cops thugs because I view them as a different side of the same coin when it comes to criminals, and to rib some people who like using the term for criminals. Anyways, I'm certain 'thug' has always been employed selectively and subjectively rather than say, broadly and objectively.
