Not really for just not being good enough. If you’re skipping meetings, workouts, causing disruptions, etc, that’s one thing. If you’re doing those things, you’re probably not happy here anyway. They’re one year scholarships though, and you may be encouraged to look elsewhere if you and the coach know you aren’t gonna see the field. If you really want to stay, something can usually be worked out, especially if you’re willing to give up your roster spot. Non scholarship players, (yes even pwo’s)on the other hand, can be cut from the roster at any time for any reason.
Yep. I like everything Napier and Co say and have done this off-season, but his first two years don't give me a tremendous amount of hope he can put it together on the field. I hope I am way off.
To some extent I agree. Im a realist with a good chunk of optimism every year, but if I’m being honest, this year feels different for me vs the past two. The quality of players and coaches we brought in, and the retention through the spring portal period, have my attention. It does seem like we are building for success. Tough season ahead but I sure hope it translates to wins.
It’s really hard to fire employees that try their best and show up daily and they suck. You feel bad for those guys.
Luckily, in this case, there’s some workarounds. If they really want to see the field, they need to be looking elsewhere anyway. If they really want to be gators and be part of the football program, and care less about pt, there’s some creative ways to keep their scholarships in tact and let them remain part of the team.
So are a lot of other coaches. Napier came into a shitty situation. Florida law was very anti to the NIL. Also, the stench from the Mullen Admin did not help him. Thankfully the Florida House changed the rules on the Portal in 2023. Thus this change opened up the Portal to Florida. In the last nine months we have seen some good talent come to UF. On the other hand, Napier has done a good job in recruiting.
By portal, do you mean NIL? There wasn’t ever any state laws on the portal. What changed in Florida was the ability for the schools to put the money and the athletes together.
Weird right? Would have thought our secondary would play above their talent and experience. We all seem to agree he mailed it in. Very disappointing. Was he just unable to work with our new DC, unwilling? Hope to see LSU’s secondary play like ours last season.
