I think this is an indictment on his previous strength and fitness routines than on the digital measurements that don't lie. They targeted functional strength he never tried to tap and got immediate results. That won't happen to all because others already had tapped those routines.

Agree. I want to see improvement in every single area like you'd expect from an improved roster and decent staff. Mistakes will be made during games by players and staff but hopefully none that cost a game. Time to win close ones we're in and defend the Swamp.

Agree. Far too long we have been pushed around. The thing is BN was responsible for the previous hire, and I would think responsible to know whether or not the S & C program was where it needed to be. It wasn't. Seems we had somewhat of a repeat when Mac was HC. We are in a physical league and to hear things weren't where they needed to be that no doubt contributed to a losing season is a concern.
I long for the days during CM's time where you needed puke buckets. Guys were after it and it showed on the field. We can't afford to be outworked in the wight room. So I do hope this part of the program is fixed.

Actually we will see some results in looking at the fitness of the individual players in the early August practice. If we see flab and slowness then we will know that some guys are not buying in and the SC coaches are letting them slide.

I think that’s a lot harder to measure. The only objective comparison is near-peer competition, which is first Miami. We have them at home. Napier will have had the better part of eight months to motivate this team to prepare for them. If we see more “can’t count to 11” or “can’t deconflict two guys with the same number,” then I’ll know a lot more about off-season preparation than a subjective look at how tone they are in practice. In theory, everyone has been lifting weights and running.

From what Nick was saying, they have numbers on every player. I immediately thought of some like big Dez, and I wondered what he's doing. My guess, if you don't comply, your scholarship ends?

Let us not focus on Dez. Doing so will get this thread locked in a heart beat (and for good reason)!

In general, if an athlete is not in the required physical shape, then the athlete cannot participate in practice and events. This is not intended to be punishment. In other words, it is to protect the well being of the athlete, the team, and the program.

A good source to a lot of the social problems we are currently experiencing is that there are way too many case of people not going through the "logical consequences". These consequences are not intended to be punishment but to be a learning experience. Far too many young people are having issues (and or causing issues) because they did not have enough (or any) learning experiences.

In this case, if all athletes know that not following/meeting the requirements will not be good for them. Hopefully most or all of them will toe the line. As a result, they and the team will be successful.

Good if you have an SEC roster and not forced to start players who wouldn't start for a top 50 program.

In general, I agree with you.
Your answer is actually referring to two different topics. One topic is fitness and conditioning. The other topic is having your head into the game.

Both items are very important and there should be some prep for them in the offseason.

There are some easy to see items for the coaches to determine if a player is not following the program. As a fan, we will not be shown this data.

Items like number of times in the weight room and in training/conditioning sessions attended, meeting the weight requirements. Also, meeting the goals that were set for the off season program.

FYI, my reference to "Dunlap Disease" was in reference to a big slab of belly hanging over and down past the beltline of the pants. Having some is acceptable. Having a steak size slab hanging 6 inches down past the beltline is not acceptable.

The beginning of the summer preseason practice will be the most accurate measure of the athletes/players fitness and conditioning. Not making the goals/targets of the offseason program, getting gassed in the drills/practices, and getting physically dominated will show up in the first few days.

As for "can't count to eleven", I know that you mean having "your head into the game". To a degree that can be detected in preseason practice too. At some point in the preseason, the coaches should be running game time situations. The not "counting to eleven", being on or off the field, knowing the play, making the reads, selecting the correct option, and other brain farts will be exposed.

Of course the coaches and players will see this. Thus, much of this info will be within the team.

However, most of it will be revealed to us fans, in the opening game with Miami.

Brings up a question. If NIL is separate from scholarships, would a player that loses his ship also lose NIL?

Nope. Not technically allowed to end a scholly based off performance.
But as we all know a player can/will be encouraged to look elsewhere.
