Chronic problem with damn near all US-based corporations. Corporate management is horrible across the board.
Wrong. It's sponsored by colleges with unlimited license to use the schools branding. It's professional athletics with second tier athletes. Those leagues usually turn out very well, with successful examples such as the xfl, usfl, sphl, and lingerie football league- although I do hope they don't go that direction. What's the value proposition for new fans though? It's already not attracting them now.
I remember working for a boneheaded company that would have us print out reports. Than write the info on a separate piece of paper and then stole the computer report to the transcribed paper report so they could double check things if necessary. I told them it was the stupidest process I had ever encountered. They said I didn’t understand their process. lol. Of course they are no longer in business.
We’re talking about sears and circuit city now. What kind of crackers do you like? I like wheat thins with some cream cheese.
Whatever helps you sleep at night dude, but it isn't even remotely the same. To the point it's become a completely different and unrecognizable sport. But keep telling yourself that.
New - different - fans. They will basically be targeting the UM fan now as the old college fans die off. Playoffs will generate enough money to keep it running - maybe even thriving for a dozen or so teams - but the booster money and former way of fundraising will probably go away and be replaced by a pro/TV-funded model.
It’s screwed bigtime but the money is less of a factor for me than the revolving portal and the instability it has created. I don’t care if Lagway makes a billion, just that he’s stay as part of a team with some continuity.
Let me actually be an optimist. Major college football finds it's way out of this dense fog of uncertainty to get to a place where there is essentially a salary cap. The focus of recruiting shifts back to the other stuff, such as facilities and culture. It's almost a total reset of back to business as normal + a salary. Does that bring any of the doomsayers back?
I admire your effort Walrus. Unfortunately it’s not likely. I mean, the toothless NCAA failed to enforce the rules when the salary cap was $0.00. So how does anyone expect them to enforce a salary cap of any kind? Keep up the good work though - often it isn’t easy being an optimist
Still knocks out 2/3 to 3/4 of the schools. The only way this works is with some kind of a Super League and/or revenue sharing that helps fund the lower 2/3 to 3/4 of teams.
Nothing and that’s the issue. It was the policy to sit out a year. With that rule gone and the portal almost always open, that’s the biggest problem. They were getting paid long before these latest changes.
Outside of some extreme circumstances, that is already the case and has been for a long time. In the CFB playoff era TCU would be the only exception that comes to mind in getting to the final, and they got obliterated. Michigan State and Cincinnati both got throttled in the semi.
Self preservation. I don’t think any of the powers to be like the portal mercenary setup, they want stability and predictability.
The only team that NIL is unfair to is Alabama, as they can no longer pay more than other programs. Their Dodge cars and Jeeps while playing no longer work. now more teams have the opportunity to cheat legally. I don’t think an agent, a player or their family should be able to solicit bids while a player is still not in the portal but other than that everything is fair game now.
