UF among the last groups to tee of today. The 15 morning groups are finishing up and by and large the course was the big winner. Decent chance all 15 teams will be double digits over par. Purdue beat UF in regionals and they are 23 over at present.
OSU #1 golfer is 5 over with 2 holes left, but their #4 guy is 4 under and leading the field. Only 2 golfers have completed a round under par thus far
Oops, sorry. Yeah, they aren't in the clubhouse yet and neither are several morning groups. Mea culpa.
Horrible start for UF, Turner goes 4 over on first 3 holes, Parker Bell 2 over first 2 holes, Kress 1 over after 3 Parker Bell plays like a champ in individual non collegiate events, doesn't translate much to UF events
Dismal start worsened, 6 over in the blink of an eye UF finally records a birdie from Dubois on the 6th hole to get him 1 under.....everyone else over par
Really good stretch ending the front nine and starting the back nine, all the way back to 1 over.....even Turner has come back from his horrid start to get back to +2, so we have a little leeway in whose score gets dropped. Currently sit in third
Kress totally implodes, goes 7 over on 3 holes.....he will be the dropped score. UF now back at 4 over
UF's #1 guy Gilligan goes 7 over for his last 8 holes and in 112th place. Kress sits in 141st place. Despite those train wrecks UF is 7 over and in a tie for 8th. Not horrible but should have been better.....UF finished 7th out of the 15 teams that went off in the PM and had better scoring
Yeah, glass half full, if you had said top 8 as the 15th ranked team going off on the second latest tee time, we all would have taken it. 757a local tee time tomorrow, hopefully they take advantage.
Exactly....would have taken it in a heartbeat. But can't help but feel they wasted an opportunity as well. Field is as bunched up as I can ever recall, today will be huge
And a repeat horrible start, 6 over on the day right out of the gate....when most of the morning groups are under par. All the way down to 18th and falling
Almost done.....9 over for the day and in 19th place. Now we hope the afternoon groups play as poorly as UF. Of the 15 groups that went this morning UF looks to be about 10th, not good enough
Not really.....only 2 guys that played in match play last year (Kress and Dubois). Kress was a freshman last year that was a little all over the place and still is, Dubois played great at NCAAS last year but has had a rough year this season and actually hasn't been in the lineup very often. Gilligan was an elite addition in the portal but hasn't played well this week, Parker Bell is a soph who didn't play last year but broke out at the US amateur and has been consistent in the lineup this year. Turner is a freshman who has had a really nice season.
The course is winning(or conditions) Especially the back 9. Virginia had a nice lead in their regional too.. Until they didnt..
