"The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members" - Mahatma Gandhi Summary: A very small, blind and deaf dog wanders into nearby neighbors yard who gets the dog some water and calls the city not knowing where it came from. Cop shows up and shoots it on the spot, twice less than 5 minutes on the scene (5:38 into video). Says it looked sick so the best solution was to draw his weapon and shoot it several times. Dog owner shows up 5 minutes later, yep, just 5 minutes after the execution (10:30) and gets really pissed. The city says it’s no big deal. What kind of people are we employing for cops? Psychopaths? City Defends Cop Who Shot Man's Blind, Deaf Dog After It Wandered Into Neighbor's Yard In a statement Thursday, the city said it is standing by the officer’s actions. Officials have reviewed the dispatch report and body camera footage and believe “the officer acted within his authority” to protect citizens from the dog causing injury to others. “The dog’s strange behavior appeared consistent with the dispatch report of an injured or possibly sick dog,” the city said, after initially claiming in a separate post that the officer feared it had rabies. It added that it would send its officers to a local county animal control facility for training and education “in hopes that this unfortunate situation does not occur again.” “The officer should not be allowed to be an officer. He struggles with power,” the homeowner told HuffPost. In a letter addressed to the city’s mayor on Monday, she demanded that the officer be relieved of his duty. “I cannot stress enough that this animal was in no way a threat to others!” she stated in the letter, a copy of which was shared with HuffPost. “I was concerned the animal would be hit or wander off without locating its owner.”
I don’t often agree with you regarding bad cops( and bad may not be the best descriptor here) but this cop is a dooche. He shouldn’t be a garbage man much less a cop
Aside from the cop being an A-Hole, isn't it a huge hassle (paperwork) to discharge your service weapon? Maybe one the the ex-cops on here can weigh in.
That's fairly clearly not what happened. That dog presented no threat, hence why he called it 'baby' several times. He just couldn't be bothered to persist with catching it. Very cruel and have no doubt he'd feel the same if it was one of his dogs.
No words. Our old girl had old dog disease, a/k/a vestibular issues which caused her to show similar behavior for awhile. I can’t even imagine. I’d probably be dead as well after weakly attacking the demented psychopath
At least he didn't shoot someone while trying to shoot a tiny dog and then give an attitude to the lady he shot and call her liar...
I summarized it, added the markers where stuff happens, linked a story that you can read about it, instead of watch, and included the key lines of the story so you didn’t even have to click into and read it. You threw a 6 minute video on another thread and said “watch!”. Have some pride in your work man.
Dog was clearly resisting 'capture' although i'm sure the shooting would have happened much sooner had it been a black dog
What a lazy piece of shit. Watching that moron try to operate the catch pole was like watching a penguin try to button a shirt. Indefensible cruelty. That was clearly somebody’s pet from nearby and it was clearly no threat to anything.
You did the same thing you complained about me doing Thursday. My post stated exactly what the video was about.
that's what i don't get. it would seem like cop 101 not to be so quick to shoot a small harmless dog. odds are it could be someone's pet. and we all know a pet can literally become part of someone's family, and why the owner (man) was in tears when he talked to the cop.
Speaking of Noem, the Brevard County GOP thought it was a great idea to bring her here to speak She’ll be at the Radisson at the port at 4:30 this afternoon if ya feel like protesting
I first thought he might be afraid of dogs since he mentioned not wanting to get bit several times before he killed it. But he later told the man that he has dogs too, and the dog was obviously not being aggressive in any way. Hard to imagine a dog owner doing this much less being that casual about it.
Buddy. Look. If you post a video simply add a summary and the ability for people to discuss without watching. It’s not bad form to post a video. It’s bad form to post a video that excludes participation if you don’t watch it. I accommodated for that, you didn’t. That’s really all there is to it.
