It's not so bad, but it will never replace football. If you are feeling patriotic you could tune into the Copa America this summer and cheer on the USMNT. Get you all primed for the world cup in 2 years coming to the US. I just enjoy watching football, so I really don't care all that much about who is paying who what. What will kill it for me is if 1 or 2 juggernauts are winning it all every year (Unless of course UF is one of them ).

The assumption here by many is that all Power 5 schools end each fiscal year with $20+M in the bank. I don’t believe that to be true. To carve out this money to pay athletes there will have to be substantial price increases on the revenue generating sports and significant cost reductions on the non revenue sports. Add in Title IX and you have a financial mess on your hands for many athletic departments, particularly those that have made recent large capital expenditures. I agree with several here in that I am a 35 year season ticket holder but it gets harder each year to renew.
I know it's not true for most of us . . . but wonder at what age people have no personal recollection of what the Sears Catalogs were?
Hope some of the schools get ahead of this and draft some very good No Compete clauses for the players they are paying to sign.
Contracts are nice when trying to run a business. I couldn’t imagine trying to run a business with no contracts at all. College football is some crazy shit. When they had to sit out a year, that was at least some protection on your investment.
My thought at the time was Amazon was putting the sears catalog online. Sears already owned prodigy. It’s like they were all set for online commerce but couldn’t see it.

Easy. Starts with the fans. They run the show. Want to move a team? Tough s--t! Want to start a Super League. Tough s--t! Also cool because it's something new, not something I've been following for 40+ years that just gets denigrated more and more every year. Game is fascinating when you actually know what you're watching and, as mentioned before, 2 hours, no commercials and I have the rest of the day ahead of me. Also, not much of a choice since it's typically over by 1 p.m. I still watch the Gators, will bet on some playoff pools and that's about it for me and college football. NFL has overtaken it for me now along with EPL. If I want to watch mercenaries, I'll watch that.
You’re exactly right. Lampert was such a fool. Not only did they not see it but they had several opportunities to fix it through acquisitions after it became obvious they were going to be in trouble. I met a guy last year who had been a regional manager for Circuit City. The stories he told me of bonehead management moves would make you cry.
