Quick answer--Palliative care is still getting treatment sometimes in the hospital and sometimes at home. There is comfort care as well but treatment is still going on.

With hospice--treatment has stopped. There is an expectation of death within 6 months. (Although patients are at times on longer. President Carter is an example. Some of the patients I have worked with have been on for 2 years or more). Comfort measures are in place. Services are in home or care facility but rarely in hospital. Hospitals will sometimes have in house hospice units but they operate as a stand alone unit with only the basic hospice services not full blown hospital services.

Gatorhead- nice sentiment, indeed. Ray truly is an institution here and always will be. He's been through hell this last year or so.

Thanks to Ray for all he's done. Blessings Ray.

    Go Gators.

Horrible to hear, even though we knew it was coming. Hopefully Ray is at peace and finally pain free now.

Yeah, he had a tough run lately. Poor guy. Blessings to his family.

Ray, a man of God was finally taken home. God bless you Ray. Please watch down on your Gator pals. You have now earned the premier sky box. While this news is sad, :( it also makes me smile knowing your pain has stopped. It's comforting reflecting on your contributions.

    Thy will be done...

    Go Gators.:)

Ray always reminded us, whenever the Hawkeyes were mentioned, that he was born in Mason City, Iowa.

The "beauty" of death is the freedom of pain. RIP Ray!

I don't know what to type. I never had the pleasure of meeting Ray. This still feels like a horrible punch in the gut. Rest in peace Ray. May God's mighty hand comfort the family.
