So, are they taking the Gators as serious opponents? You decide? Ranking Tennessee's Biggest Games in 2024
Yes, and I am glad they are underestimating us! I expect they will play us well in their own house, but I doubt it will be a route by either team!
Well the Vegas line agrees that they'll be favored, but the writer makes it seem like UF won by the skin of its teeth in 2023 rather than pounding them decisively like we did.
Pat Dooley rates the Tennessee game as a key barometer to our entire season. (But nice to know the toothless fans have it in the bag). Says Dooley: "You may disagree but there are so many different layers as to why I believe this is the biggest game of the season. One, it’s on the road, which is the only place the Vols have beaten Florida in the last two decades. Secondly, it is the start of a Murderer’s Row on this schedule over the last seven Saturdays. And third, it’s Tennessee and no matter how many times Florida beats Rocky Top there are fans who believe they still haven’t suffered enough."
Let them overlook us, along with everyone else. We either step up and destroy that or prove them right in overlooking us.
Tennessee fans do this to themselves every single off season. They totally reinvent their team to be world beaters and then believe it to be true. I think they earn trophies for this mindset in the off season.
Sadly, I find the UT fan dismissal of UF far less egregious than the notion that they are on par with Alabama or UGA. I see nothing that leads me to believe that UT is a top tier SEC team, but not so sure that the delusion that they are sec champs is any more absurd than that they will beat us as a doormat. In sum, I do not give a damn about how UT views UF or the SEC (UgA/UA), as their perspective has been consistently incorrect. UF needs to take care of UF, and UT will fall into their rocky top subservience. The unfortunate sidelight to this is that beating UT is like peeing in your wetsuit - it makes you warm for a minute but changes nothing. Put another way, if UF is measuring itself versus UT, we are putting our yardstick against a losing program that none of us would accept.
Is the answer, “A game we can’t seem to win, no matter how stark an advantage we have in coaching and talent in a given year?”
Gee lets see: (last 10) 23 - Gators W 22 - L 21- W 20 - W 19 - W 18 - W 17 - W 16 - L 15 - W 14 - W Yeah UT, we suck, walk in the park, prepare like it's Tenn Tech! I suggest a kegger party the night before!!
Wow, I bet that "J" guy UT podcaster dosen't take the Gators real lightly. Damn, I thought UF fans get carried away with preseason enthusiasm. We got nothing on the Volshiemers!
GREAT!!! I hope their coach and players are thinking this way. They lost a lot of their team from last year and didn't upgrade anywhere.
They are putting ALOT of stock in their young QB. Tough to throw a youngster into the SEC wars and expect a dominating record. I do think they have done a decent job in the "talent aquisition business". I will give props to Josh Heupel. IMO he is the best coach to land on the Cumberland since Phateus retired.
We might lose to Tenn… or miami. Have to see the season as a whole. No single game is the KOD on the season. Need 7 wins. More is better.
Many Vols thoughts last year was their year to win the SEC, didn't happen of course. Think they take another step back this year I doubt many Vols downplay the Gator game. That's already an $$$ ticket. Vols I know rank Bama and Gators #1 and 1A as teams they hate. Even when the Gators are bad the Vols find a way to lose. Must be frustrating.
Payton Manning came back that year for one main reason- to beat the Gators, which he was never able to do. Wuerffel was so good that game!!!!
