It's called paraphrasing. Look into it.

Paraphrasing content is not generally bracketed by quotation marks. To do so creates confusion and false narratives.

When you put quotes around it, it's called quoting--and while you'd certainly enjoy the benefit of the doubt on a message board (i do it all the time), you lose that, when, in the same post, you dismiss broadbrushing as "MAGAT 101", and appeal to *the devil in the details*.

So it's "Magat 101" to broadbrudh from 30000 ft to excuse what was said...

What is it to invoke details, to condemn what wasn't actually said?

    Hypocrisy?

    Doh! Biden standards? (Lol!)

He actually listened to it instead of reading biased snippets to create a false narrative and ignorant audience?

Breaking things down to a 30,000 foot general theme vs. cutting to the heart of a statement with a paraphrase aren't the same.

Admittedly, a paraphrase shouldn't be typed out as if it were a direct quote as I did.

“I can tell you that my beautiful wife, Isabelle, would be the first to say that her life truly started when she began living her vocation as a wife and as a mother.”

I believe this line is what that poster is talking about. I don’t find this line offensive per se since it’s strictly talking about his own family. But you have to have the context, he flows from “diabolical lies” and dismissing women who would persue careers into his wife, and her “vocation” of homemaker. His speech has plenty of crazy in it, but I think the women who took offense obviously zeroed in on everything starting with that “diabolical lies” line. Guy is very flippant about these graduates career persuits and is obviously suggesting most of the women in the audience shouldn’t bother with careers. How literal do his words need to be???

At some point you have to read the words, and process them. It might not literally say “a woman’s place is in the kitchen”, but when a man goes on about the “vocation of homemaker”, this is what it means. Are you going to suggest otherwise?

There were plenty of other crazy aspects to the speech, obviously the obligatory anti-abortion screed. Covid conspiracies. A bit of antisemitism for good measure. Trying to claim like half of Catholics aren’t true Catholics. The overarching theme seemed to be “staying in your lane”, not sure how a 28 year old football player calling out Catholic priests and bishops as needing to bend to his rigid views is “staying in his lane”, but maybe that’s just me. I only read it once and am surely forgetting a few points, but that ego jumped right off the page.

First off, this is a red herring. Whatever MAGA has done is irrelevant to that analysis. You don't know how Harrison Butker is going to vote. Many parts of that speech had nothing to do with elections. And the part about Biden supporting murder in the form of abortion is true. It is a 10 commandments issue. Biden and every person who runs with a D next to their name is guilty of genocide along with the people who support them. Leftism is a worldview that is virulently anti-Christian and projects a grossly perverse version of something they call "Christianity." The..."but Trump" and "but MAGA" cards do nothing to substantiate anything. They are simply two word phrases for the simple minded to shut down discussion because they don't want to discuss anything.

So in your post #398 the demarcation of the left is referenced and the basis for your proclamations. And continuing in this post, ranting about Biden and the Dems. And like it or not, “the right” is now maga and their Dear Leader. But suddenly, that’s off-limits and “irrelevant”?
I’m not sure i know what your point is, your last few posts cover many topics.

Leftism existed before Trump. MAGA could cease to exist, and the left would still exist. Leftism is not a formal academic term, but neither is MAGA. However, leftism describes a values system that seeks to transform and dictate how we live our lives politically, publicly, and socially. It is a system that attempts to deconstruct Christianity and redefine it according to its own worldview. The fallacy in your argumentation is that MAGA and leftism form a binary, where critiquing one of the two requires a defense of the other. That is patently false. There are people outside of MAGA and leftism that can critique leftism. And there is no reason MAGA has to be brought into that critique.

"My wife [says] HER life started..." =/= "YOUR life is meaningless ".

No basis for the leap from what he actually said, to 'women belong barefoot, preggers, in da kitchen' making their dude a samich.

As for the "vocation of homemsker"--he's advocating for the dignity of "the vocation of homemaker", not saying career is a waste of life.

Again, he doesn't spell out what the diabolical lies are, but the most that can be sustained is to infer he's speaking defensively for homemaker, not offensively against career. Iow, crying foul that the world has belittled homemaker, and exalted career (which I previously called a strawman--fwiw).

Your point wrt the priests is well taken. That was the part I found particularly itchy (he's all over the place, judgmental, broadbrushing...). The point he was clumsily trying to make there, was mostly lost on me, but the irony of invoking "staying in your lane" analogy, was not.

Either way--there was nothing radical about what he said.

Worst of all, the same db's who are whining an unholy pissy fit about this guy's speech, defend the *propriety* of calling for the extermination of jews, and intimidating Jewish students, on far more conspicuous campii.

Has there been a graduation speech in favor of exterminating Jews? I must have missed that…strange pivot.

Obviously you are just not wanting to interpret the misogamy the way many are (including the nuns). The conservative Catholic school didn’t even try to defend that trash.

I’m sure this won’t change your mind, but I would add a bit more food for thought anyway: with the overarching theme of his speech being “staying in your lane”, it’s pretty easy to see his bizarre address to women as part of that theme. I.e that the proper “lane” for women is that of homemaker. Again, no he did not literally say this, but it all fits his apparant narrative - if we can glean anything coherent from that mess.

At least we can agree his “call out” of the Catholic hierarchy was insane. The best part: apparently this dude wasn’t a practicing Catholic in high school or college, before “rekindling” his interest in it. Guy went down some YouTube rabbit hole, now a few years later at the wise old age of 28 he’s more Catholic than the Pope.:emoji_joy:

So accuse "the left" using sweeping generalizations. ie "It is a system that attempts to deconstruct Christianity and redefine it according to its own worldview." based on what?? Like the DNC is planning this?
And my basic point is you made a very long post and follow up posts ranting on all the ills of the left and mentioning Biden and Dems. But not a single blip on trump and his blind-followers. Therefor the true motive of the posts comes off as yet just another 'us vs them' politically based attack vs what is truly wrong with society or whatever. Post that and I’m all for it for both sides. But it comes off as biased mudslinging and not really convincing.

Well, there have been a number of grad ceremonies cancelled, out of terrorist inspired fear over the threats posed to our Jewish students...

Yet your side clutches its pearls over a guy bragging about his wife not having to work, and how satisfied SHE is...

...and scarcely condemns the criminal terrorist behavior that continues on those campii, while continuing to clutch pearls here, and call for a proud young father and husband's career to be cancelled here...

And speaking of relevant topics you would seek to pivot away from, so you can resume your myopic navel gazing, and laser focused attack on this particular speech delivered by a football player (kicker, no less....), and whine about *divisiveness*...

....your POTUS delivered a dandy of a divisive mess at another College's graduation over the weekend.

I'm sure your side has expressed all the pearl clutching righteous indignation over y'all's Dear Leader shredding our nation, and telling black college kids (he's white, it should be worth noting) how awful we as a nation ARE to them, and how shitty democracy is for them...

    Any day now, I'm sure.

Now, tell me more about how gawd awful it is, that a Catholic pro athlete said Catholic stuff, to a small, private Catholic college...

Why concern ourselves with actually divisive shit actually uttered by the POTUS, Doh! Biden, when we manufacture more palatable grievances over what a Catgolic pro athlete didn't even say?

    Who attacked whom?

A Catholic pro athlete delivered a speech to a Catholic college, wherein he boasted of the good fortune of the traditional family formula, along with some other benign political commentary...

The MSM picked it up, and ran with it.. and the Political Left's puppet soldiers (y'all) dutifully sprung forth into action, and have continued to pile on going on a week now...

Meanwhile, y'all's own "Dear Leader", whom y'all excuse every stupidity and malevolence conceivable, delivered a far more divisive mess of a commencement address, since this Catholic Kicker dared to wax Catholic, at a small Catholic College's commencement.

NB: Doh! Biden--a white guy-- delivered his mess from the office of POTUS (Butker was NOT wearing his KC uni, worth pointing out...)--to a black college.

    Defend that.

I think y'all have blown your wad and then some, over Catholic Butker's Catholic speech to a small Catholic audience.

Then that would qualify as his opinion on the speech not the crowd’s. I know you’re not talking bout me cuz I didn’t weigh in for days and until page 21 when I had some time to listen.

It was a bad speech poorly crafted for college grads. I didn’t really attack the substance just the appropriateness of it.
