Say what you want about Josh Pate, but I think he's an honest prognosticator of sports. He seems to separate his built-in human bias from logical points of fact, and gives what I think is an honest assessment of sports teams, player and infrastructure, around college football programs.

He likes The Gators' QB room, and he and his people thinks that The Gators have one of the best QB rooms in the nation.

I just wish he'd dispense with the apologies in doing so, because he knows his audience will conflate QB talent with over all proven talent and expectations in wins and losses given our ridiculously difficult schedule The Gators face. He needs to drop the apologies when rating Gator players rooms.

You can have every 5* qb in the nation and still lose every game.

True, but it's not likely. I think he judges the QB rooms fairly.

At least he knows that Mertz is one of the best QBs in the SEC this year. Read some of the other pod-casters out there and still... Mertz gets no respect.

I agree with that. I believe our qb room is just fine. Mertz can win a natty given the surrounding cast. It’s the surrounding cast that’s in question. Our schedule is the toughest in the nation but what would you predict Georgias record to be with Mertz as their qb with our schedule? The schedule isn’t the biggest factor. They would still be the favorite against us if we had Timmy and they had their third string qb.

I get that this year is all about prove-it to me as well. But right here and right now we're all bout rating QB rooms...

But if you want to entertain a tangent like what to expect from The Gators this year we can. I would rate our receivers room as one of the top 3 or 4 in the SEC, and that bodes well for Mertz and company.

That leaves the O-line to do their part... and we could have a much improved passing game with regard to points per game. We need to improve our points per game by at least 10 more per game to be where we need to offensively this year. I do think our O-line will be far better if we avoid the serious/nagging type injuries we had last year.

Mertz will have the receivers that can fly and we need to take advantage of that... love to see some 10 and 00 personnel on offense this year.

I believe he rated our QB room an 8.5 which puts us in a tie for 4th place in the SEC or so... Remember this is an overall assessment of all our QBs in aggregate, not just our starting QB.

Mertz with Bama a year ago, they would have won the National Championship.

We will be better is all I believe. That goes for the next couple of years too. The sec is a tough mountain to climb. I can’t wait till we have A handful of all SEC starters returning and the young account we have now behind them.

This rating is interesting to me... LSU is a TAD bit overrated, IMHO.

What has Nussmeier done as a starter stats wise compared to Mertz, and their second QB is Vanderbilt's old QB, A.J. Swann. Are they better than Mertz and Lagway? Our 3rd QB has some experience too.

Here is Jessie Simonton's list of top QB rooms in the nation. So this adds all QB rooms to the mix. This is our nationally ranked list by another sports prognosticator, Jessie Simonton.
    1 Texas
    2. OSU
    3. Oregon
    4. UGA
    5. Bama
    6.Notre Dame
    7. Ole Miss
    8. LSU
    9. Gators
    10. A&M

2024 Quarterback Unit Rankings: With Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning, Texas leads Top 10

Here is another rating LSU which is higher than I would rate them. I think the Gator have a better QB room.

In addition to Nussmeier, the Tigers have Vanderbilt transfer AJ Swann, redshirt freshman former four-star recruit Rickie Collins and Colin Hurley, a true freshman early enrollee who reclassified from 2025 to 2024.

Where does LSU’s quarterback room rank nationally entering 2024?

We just added 33 new players from a mix of 20 from high school and the rest from other college football teams. I think it's safe to say we upgraded our overall team talent for 2024. Not saying that will win anything nor be as good as Bama was last year, but we will be far more talented.

Tied for fourth, like I said.

But I don't buy LSU being higher than the Gators. Nussmeier is not better than Mertz, and their Vandy transfer is not batter than Lagway, even though he's right out of high school.

I WOULD rank The Gators' QB room #3 in the SEC.

Didn't he admit to some LSU bias because of having the top '25 QB committed?

As long as he continues to say nice things about UF. As soon as he says anything bad then he will revert to being a fake news pushing, gator hating hack. This is the way.

Not this guy, he's a realist. But some people will push the boundaries of over-the-top hyperbole of nonsense.
