I don't fault the officer for trying to stop him, but it's mind-boggling that they arrested him seemingly without asking any questions which would have de-escalated the situation. That just screams some guy on a power trip.

He went after him with very good reason. He was right to stop him. But upon realizing he’s the #1 golfer in the world trying to get into the tournament he’s about to play and he’s been told to do what he’s doing you stop shy of arresting him, putting him in an orange jumpsuit and mugshotting him and charging him with felony assault on a police officer which will 1000% be dismissed.

Absolute moron cop. Probably got personally berated by the governor.

Players were allowed to bypass traffic. How do you expect them to do that?

It's very obvious it was a simple misunderstanding that could have easily been resolved without cuffing and arresting him.

A cop pulled him out of the car. From the video doesn’t seem like Scheffler raised his voice at all, and according to witnesses only the cop was “heated”.

I assume because of the fatal accident earlier in the day, they brought in a bunch of cops that wouldn’t otherwise be there. Seems like it would be pretty common sense when trying to navigate going into a sporting event that once you realize the “main attraction” is the one stuck in traffic or confused at the point of entry, that police role would be to assist them rather than antagonize them. I’d even call it an instance where “don’t you know who I am?” actually should apply, provided their only “crime” is trying to get to the venue.

Agree. This was escalated because of what BOTH Scheffler and the office did. Scheffler should've stopped and the office should've also not escalated the issue.

I agree with you on the arrest, booking, mug-shot, etc. Completely unnecessary. Prior to that, the whole thing could have been handled better by both parties.

I apologize. I didn't realize there was another victim to consider. The officer's pants. Damaged beyond repair.

Perhaps it should be difficult to enter Valhalla now that I think about it. Gotta die in berserker mode Viking style.

He’s a great golfer and uniformly known as a great guy. I’m glad you put “if true” in your post.

I'm not anti-cop, but that jumpsuit perp pic was over the top BS.

The thing that clearly set all this off to next level was him dragging the officer, that’s what we need more info on.
The cops say the guy was standing in front of his car and SS accelerated and tagged him. The cop ended up going to the hospital with minor injuries.
SS doesn’t address that at all in his statement which seems a bit telling. But hopefully there’s body cam footage.

The fact that he's currently on the 15th hole rather than in a holding cell would suggest he didn't actually put a cop in the hospital by dragging him with his car in the literal sense.

Perhaps. We will see. They could have ROR’d him for PR reasons too. they know where he will be, and the image of the number one golfer in the world sitting in a jail cell while the eyes of the golfing world are on their city wouldn't be what they want either.
Every time one of these happens the story changes multiple times, and it’s early days on this.

I'm with @DoubleDown11 . If he really did that to the police officer, he would not be golfing right now. Coupled with the reporter that was with him the entire way, this feels like it was taken way out of context by the police.

Again, not saying either of you are wrong, only that a lot of assumptions are made early on in weird events like this. The full story will come out eventually.

According to the footage I saw on TV, this happened at night. What time do golf tournaments start? 1 am? The crack of dawn?
