Choose a qb for this year, as a 1 year experienced college player: Kerwin Bell or Bo Nix? Shane Matthews or Heath Shuler? The above means zero. NFL draft? All I can think of are the 100s of QBs that are high picks and do zip.
Judkins is behind Treveyon Henderson at RB at Ohio St. Nussmeirer? 1/2 of one bowl game and he's on Heisman list? He may lose the job by week 4 !
Well...yeah! Schedules matter. Take a look at each SEC team's opponents: 2024 Division IA Schedules and Results We only have ONE opponent who is considered clearly worse than we are. Only Samford is out of the Top 55 teams (we're ranked 44th). Look at the other SEC teams with opponents lower than 55th: Mizzou: 7 Auburn: 6 Ole Miss: 6 Alabama: 5 Kentucky: 5 LSU: 5 Tennessee: 5 Texas A&M: 5 Vandy: 5 Arkansas: 4 Miss State: 4 Oklahoma: 4 Texas: 4 USCe: 4 Georgia: 3 Florida: 1 Florida could have a losing record and still be an 8-win caliber team, but Gator fans, like most fans, only look at the W-L record. Yes, I remember the Parcells Maxim ("You're as good as your W-L record say you are"), but Billy is going into the 2024 season as though he is being placed 10 meters behind everyone else in a hundred-meter race. Our opponents aren't ranked so highly because "everyone hates the Gators." This ain't the Spurrier Era where everyone is either a Gator or Gator hater. No one hates middle of the pack teams with .500 records. Since 2010, our record against P5 teams is 74-70 (.514). No, Billy has a monumental task ahead of him. I am rooting like Hell for him to succeed, as I did EVERY coach since Charley Pell, but he and his staff are sweating, and Gator Nation is NOT patient...
It gts worse. According to Howell, we are ranked 44th in the nation, while the College Football Ranking Comparison (an average from 77 rankings) has us at 59. Here are the SEC teams and our P5 opponents who are ranked higher on their schedule: Georgia: 0 Alabama: 1 LSU: 1 Fla State: 2 Mizzou: 2 Texas: 2 Miami: 3 Ole Miss: 3 Oklahoma: 3 Tennessee: 3 Texas A&M: 4 Kentucky: 5 UCF: 5 Auburn: 6 Miss State: 8 USCe: 8 Arkansas: 9 Florida: 9 Vandy: 11 The CFRC cumulative average also has us at 9 with UCF directly behind us. Thanks to our schedule, we are considered a bottom feeder. I hope we run the table, or at least get eight wins and show improvement, but I'm not getting my hopes up...
If we can get to eight wins with that schedule, there’s probably some teams that will make the playoffs that we could beat
It's kind of in the eye of the beholder. I could look at Kentucky's schedule whose is much easier and say that they should have 7 instead of 5. It is a bear of a schedule and our depth will be tested severely, but we are in much better shape to handle it than 2 years ago roster-wise.
And we face 5 off that list... Lol. That's why players want to play in Gainesville... to play in these kinds of games.
Hopefully we aren’t just getting our ass kicked on national TV and we do some ass kicking. Bad exposure is better than no exposure at all. These kids know they are going to spend a lot of time on TV this year win or lose.
I'm expecting we can be competitive in every game we play. The number of injuries the Gators have, and who is injured, will factor into our success!
It is going to be a long and grueling season for every team in the SEC. One thing I know for sure, The Gators will not be taking anyone lightly. They will be up for every game.
Thanks for sharing! Am I missing something, because I don't see Nussmeier in the Heisman race at all?
