KC Chiefs kicker complains about "emasculation of men," gay pride & says women should be homemakers

Bishop Barron is a RW wacko cleric, albeit a popular one. And he gets Scorcese's Jesuit movie completely wrong. That's dishonest. Parenthetically, Andrew Garfield played a Jesuit in Silence, along with Adam Driver and Liam Neeson, who played a Jesuit for the second time in his career, both among my favorite movies. Garfield has now portrayed 4 Christian denominations, all very well, FWIW.

Either way, Bishop Barron is making a highly dishonest argument.

Men are 400% more likely than women to commit violent crimes...

Men, both the cause of, and solution to, our violent crime problem ...

 

I do listen to the other side. Sometimes their views are repugnant, like this fellow’s views. If you don’t think so, fine. My wife and her family are devout Catholics, and they don’t agree with him. In other words, you can interpret the Bible any way you want in order to justify what your upbringing and emotions dictate. They don’t necessarily conform to Christ’s message to mankind, which is love, tolerance and acceptance.

 

Why on earth would it be "abhorrent", if either or both of your daughters were to find being a homemaker, fulfilling?

THAT actually sounds more sexist than anything he actually said in his speech.

I think women can find fulfillment in the work place, at home, or hybrid of both. Imho though, there is no more fulfilling, nor dignified life, than full time homemaker for a woman--as an ideal, albeit impractical and difficult to pull off life.

This guy makes NFL money, so it's very feasible.

Most ppl simply do not have the resources, so momma gots to work.

Do you really find that his wife finding it fulfilling to be full time homemaker, abhorrent?

As a man who gets a lot of praise and has been given a platform to speak to audiences like this one today, I pray that I always use my voice for God and not for myself. Everything I am saying to you is not from a place of wisdom, but rather a place of experience. I am hopeful that these words will be seen as those from a man not much older than you who feels it is imperative that this class, this generation, and this time in our society must stop pretending that the things we see around us are normal. Heterodox ideas abound, even within Catholic circles. Let’s be honest, there is nothing good about playing God with having children, whether that be your ideal number or the perfect time to conceive. No matter how you spin it, there is nothing natural about Catholic birth control. It is only in the past few years that I have grown encouraged to speak more boldly and directly, because as I mentioned earlier, I have leaned into my vocation as a husband and father and as a man.

What a ridiculous OP! Complain all you want about the message. But don’t lie about it. Instead of listening to your biased sources. Listen to the speech next time. He is a Catholic speaking to a Catholic Commencement….

 

Go listen to him as he says this and see if you understand the context of its place in the speech. To give yourself a little buffer start at the 12 minute mark. It is a personal message he was sharing about his and his wife’s life. Actually very touching. Nothing close to crazy evil like the left wing wants people to ignorantly believe. Par for the course with the OP though…

 

It’s just one part of the speech, and he’s correct.

Having a loving mother at home at least during the first two years is crucial to a child’s healthy development. Sadly, Americans largely give lip service to that most fundamental of family values. Most European countries give families a year to stay home with a newborn at a reduced pay.

 

That and sometimes the man in the home is responsible for the violence in the home. Interesting data on women’s suicide rates.

It’s the actual transcript of his speech. Most people don’t and won’t watch long speeches (20 mins in this case). Some in here are only mildly interested in this topic.

 

Wait, you mean mass incarceration is associated with violence? If we were to let the men from those households out of prison, what percentage of their children would become involved in crime, given the rates of poverty, multi-generational history of violence, lack of education, etc?

 

I don’t think that’s what Limey is saying, or at least not as I read it. Of course it isn’t abhorrent for a woman to choose that traditional wife lifestyle.

It *is* abhorrent to push that life on girls early, or to strongly imply women should not persue careers which is pretty much what this guy was taking about with his “diabolical lies” line and the dismissive way he describes possible career titles or promotions for these graduates. I think that’s the line that jumps out as crazy misogynistic. Even at a Catholic school, I’d wonder what % of female college graduates end up with “homemaker” as their only vocation? I find it hard to believe only a small % of graduates would enter the workforce even at an insular religious institution, but in the real world it’s only going to come off as crazy. Comes off as out of touch as I’m sure most women would “choose” not to work outside the home if they had millions in the bank from their NFL husband. It would actually take a special person or someone who truly loved their career to keep grinding away at a demanding job, and by that I mean a real full time day job not the vanity projects or PR of celebrities. The reality is most people have to work a lifetime to achieve financial security or never truly do.

This is true, but in Europe its quite often not two people living together unmarried. Lots of split households doing co-parenting.

 

If the things Ingraham, Trump and others said about Lebron and Kapernick (they should shut up and play ball, should be fired etc.) are being said by prominent figures on the left in this situation, it's fair to point out that inconsistency, too. What I've mostly seen is people criticizing what he said as opposed to saying he needs to shut up because he's not qualified to have an opinion about anything other than kicking a football.
