I dunno about that one. The average career is much shorter in the league. And Tebow was at best, average among NFL QBs. Perhaps today when running is more of a premium, he'd have a better shot given his durability. So timing might have hurt him too.

If he is not playing, he’ll be on Fox News or OANN. If it was Mahomes saying this, teams would put up with it. But for a kicker, I have my doubts. Maybe.

I personally don’t think he should lose his career over his beliefs, but the NFL is a media business. I’m sure he realized this. So hopefully his conviction is strong enough that losing his career is a price he is willing to pay.

Tebow was a playmaker and a winner. Some team would have figured out how to use him effectively, even if it wasn’t as a full time QB.

I'll comment on it. It is largely untrue. Let's look at births out of wedlock as a percentage of total births. US is at 40.5% births out of wedlock. Compare that to most developed countries, and this is actually lower. And yet, the violence rates in these countries is largely lower. It is something that sounds good to somebody trying to avoid the issues around the availability of weaponry and the drug wars, but it is largely not true, at least at a societal level.

That's it in a nutshell, right?
As a father of two daughters, I find his views pretty abhorrent that they should be content to be a homemaker but hey, people all have different perspectives, shaped by personal experience.
He's allowed to say it, people can agree or disagree. Surely that's the basis of free speech?

I think that's true of most people who get drafted in the first few rounds, and there just werent any teams running the kind of offense that would have suited him at the time. I think his arm was a little suspect, so its not like he would have been Jalen Hurts if allowed to run the Philly offense of 2 seasons ago. I think his name and intangibles got him more chances than others would get, TBH. I know this will always be the perennial debate among Gator fans.

I think in places like Iceland its really high, and they have like single digit murders every year. But my suspicion is when people like this talk about his subject they really mean or are picturing non-white or non-European people.

Um, because he has fame, via sports and his own mouthing off. He didn't win a writing contest (and would have been blasted had there been one, given the elementary errors from beginning to end.) He has no connection to Benedictine that a billion other people don't. But what he does have is fame (at least, sorta; I mean it's Punter Fame, but still fame) and an already established track record of public opining no one asked for.

    But so?

Just listen to the words of a wise man, in a modern day masterpiece of social bravery, and just insert your own station in life to see why it's basically your duty to push out whatever inner claptrap out onto the masses:

"Don't be mistaken: even within the church, people in polite Catholic circles will try to persuade you to remain silent. There even was an award-winning film called “Silence” made by a fellow Catholic wherein one of the main characters, a Jesuit priest, abandoned the church, and as an apostate, when he died is seen grasping a crucifix quiet and unknown to anyone but God. As a friend of Benedictine College, his Excellency Bishop Robert Barron said in his review of the film it was exactly what the cultural elite want to see in Christianity: Private, hidden away and harmless.

"It is safe to say that over the past few years I've gained quite the reputation for speaking my mind. I never envisioned myself nor wanted to have this sort of a platform but God has given it to me so I have no other choice but to embrace it and preach more hard truths about accepting your lane and staying in it."

The real genius of that last passage is "staying in your lane." See, this prophet has been assigned a prime lane straight from God, and that lane is to say what he believes as loud and publicly as possible. This only works, though, so long as all the beatdowns that God has assigned STFU lanes honor their own assignments. Do your job!!!!

It shouldn’t be a problem, as long as this weirdo isn’t mic’d up during the game. No sane person wants to hear him go on an anti-vaxx rant in the team huddle on 3rd and 6.

Couldn't the Virgin Mary be called Our Lady of Emasculation? She told Joseph, "I don't need you for this. Just stick to your carpentry."

I recall that Iceland has relatively high rates of out of wedlock birth. I don't know if that translates to comparable rates of single parent homes or whether couples there are just more likely to live and parent together under the same roof without getting married. I tend to view those as separate things and do think it's ideal to have two parents in the home. Of course, many view people living together or having and raising kids outside of marriage as inherently sinful from a theological perspective.

Just because the couple is not married does not mean that the man is not involved in the raising of the children.

Why is that an issue if his wife really feels that way?

I would argue my wife would concur. She chose to walk away from her career during the time our kids are being raised because she views that as the highest of all callings.

Does every woman have to do the same to be fulfilled? Of course not, but he is speaking for his wife and may be echoing her personal feelings.

If so, why is that a problem. (This is not me condoning other aspects of the speech which I have not heard yet, just curious why this one comment is so bad)

Curious is it mostly middle-senior aged white guys here? any women posters? I might have missed your comments but would like your perspective on the OP. Vs only us emphatically stating what is best for young women. (Also understandable not disclosing your demographic due the bigotry we see on occasion in THFSG)

Agree. There are plenty of women who work because they enjoy what they do and are career driven just like there are women who would rather be home with their kids but have to work due to financial reasons. There is no wrong decision and it just depends on the person and often their financial circumstances.

I don’t agree with Butker and like I said in a previous post, I could care a less about what a NFL kicker says about anything other than football and not sure why anyone else would either. But if that is the way he and others feel, why does anyone care?

But basically the other side wants him to shut up and kick. There is no high ground for either side. Just dishonest dialogue.

Cool stat. Who said anything about wedlock?

    FACT SHEET: Fatherhood and Crime

    • Individuals from father-absent homes are 279% more likely to carry guns and deal drugs than their peers
    • It has been reported that fatherless children are anywhere from 3 to 20 times more likely to be incarcerated than children raised in dual-parent households.
