Then that is what the selection committee should have said, but they didn't. I can actually understand that reason over what they stated after the selections.
Today, Korbe Otis was named a Top 10 Finalist by USA Softball for Player of the Year. She joins Maya Brady of UCLA, Lexi Kilfoyl of Oklahoma State, Reese Atwood of Texas, Jaysoni Beachum of FSU, HiJaree Canady of Stanford, Claire Davidson of Duke, Karli Spaid of Miami (OH), Tiare Jennings of Oklahoma and Karlyn PIckens of Tennessee. The Top 3 Finalists will be announced May 20, with the winner being announced prior to the WCWS.
I have one seat available for all three days in Section 102. The only consolidation prize is that you have to sit next to me during the games. Please contact me in a reply to this post. I am charging the price of the ticket plus the Venmo charge.
She should've been a finalist over Jennings. For one, her defense is so much better. Two she's at .389 on BA and Jennings is only at .368. Some of Jennings own teamates were more deserving. And just a note... Wallace is back up to .399 lol after that monster showing.
Likewise for the Gainesville Sun. Except in the rarest of occasions, you would not know UF even had a softball team. They did do a story regarding the SEC Championship, which given their history, actually surprised me. I canceled them a couple months ago. They have a racket on top of everything else. You can subscribe online. You can't cancel online. You have to call them and they then put you through the ringer trying to stop it. I told them I was canceling because it has possibly the worst sports section I have ever had the displeasure of reading. Whoever I spoke with, and I'm sure he had no access or authority, responded "well, I'll talk to the sports desk about it." I laughed. To make matters even dumber....I canceled....I am not being charged....and two months or so later I still have full access online. They can't even do that correctly.
While I doubt we are the only premier program to do this, this is a very smart move. This should be top level recruiting opportunity. I'm guessing this coincides with the Colorado Sparkler travel tournament. To my understanding that is the largest travel tournament in the country with upwards of 500 teams competing in the various age brackets. It must be a mayhem that week. There must be up to and possibly over 10,000 girls, coaches, parents, etc. converging on the place at the same time. I'll bet the locals don't even think about trying to go out to a restaurant that week.
Sometimes I just feel like we don't give enough credit to Keagan. She has had some "downs" but far more "ups". Some of the perspective is because she was, very unfairly, expected to come in and throw one no-hitter after another. But....can you name another freshman pitcher who has thrown over 200 innings and won 26 games? I can't.
Same thing happened to me regarding the Sun almost two years ago. I've been receiving the online version for free since then. I do enjoy reading David Whitley and the comics.
lol....so....everyone listen up.....subscribe for one month.....cancel...you're home free for the rest of your life. Not that you have gotten a great benefit but it is what it is.
I’m sure a lot have seen it, but the SEC inside on the tournament has some nice footage of all final four coaches interacting with their teams. Obviously quite a bit of CTW. Saw it on sec network but it is on demand on the ESPN app.
Totally agree. The only other freshman pitcher I can think of who had this level of workload and success was Dallas Escobedo of Arizona State in 2011. She threw 255.1 innings, 37-3, 6 saves, 1.51 ERA, .173 BA against, 95 BB, 328 K's. She pitched every inning of every post season game for the Sun Devils that year, inclduing beating Florida 3 times in the WCWS, as they went 60-6 and won the national title.
