I didnt realize you knew me and what me or those I love do/have or do/have not "suffered". Furthermore, suffering is relative. We all do and we don't do it over the same things.
How so? They are relevant to me...and to my opinion ...which is what i gave. I didnt realize that in my couple weeks away that we stopped giving opinions on TooHot.
Circling back to this...How is my perspective "privileged? Seems that term should be saved for those with the means to run from state to state when they dont like the choice of the populous. That is literally the epitome of "privilege".
That sounds good, but in most states that is now fools gold. Best case maybe have an impact at the local level.
Change can happen. When I moved to Oklahoma in 81 there was one state wide elected Republican, that was Senator Don Nickles, who had just been elected in the 80 Reagan election. All 6 federal Representatives, one US Senator, and every elected state wide position from Governor on down was a Democrat. Now all 5 federal Reps, both Senators, Governor and all but 1 state wide elected official are Republican.
Easier said than done. I would agree on a state level but not with certain counties or cities. Take Alachua County as an example, almost the entire county is conservative until you put Gainesville into it. No matter what Republicans have done over the last 30 years in Gainesville it's been almost impossible for them to get any majority control in Gainesville. Due to the University and its students who are only here for a few years than leave but their allowed to vote and force their views in area they most likely will never live.
But most states change. You are chasing ghosts if you move from state to state..or town to town. Seriously NC has flipped back and forth in my time here and Florida has done the same since I moved away. "Sorry wife and kids, daddy doesnt like the governor, so Im ripping you away from your friends and home to chase the wind."
Local government is less dependent on the Republican/Democrat dynamic. Parks and streets typically arent political party exclusive. I get that because of what we have become, we make it all political...but it really shouldn't be at the local level. The lib/pub arguments tend to fall on things that are more global.
Florida heat protections bill now law, blocks local laws for workers Not sure what to make of this yet. Initial reaction to headlines claiming the bill "bans heat protections" was sour but after reading the specifics that isn't really the case as it supposedly leans heavily on OSHa guidelines but blocks legislation governing precautions at the local level. Still though, was this a problem that needed to be addressed?
Its a preemption bill, the state Republicans don't like cities to have autonomy of any kind whether its paying workers better wages or offering more protections to people. The "problem" in their view is cities making things harder on their wealthy/corporate donors or undermining their culture war nonsense. That's the "free" state of Florida for you.
I'd have to disagree based solely on what happens in Alachua County and it's all liberal city and county commissioners
Well, when taken properly, the pill is 99% effective. You are using numbers that include people not following the directions. Birth Control Pill: Types, Side Effects & Effectiveness
In my state if you do that, the state government passes a law that says "you cant do that" even thought the state constitution says we have home rule
Politics is as good a reason as any to move. It has a massive impact on people's lives and wellbeing. Electorates shift every few decades. Party representation doesn't necessarily speak to ideology.
Because your life does not resemble that of a pregnant woman in need of an abortion. That needed to be explained to you?
Sure, it's that simple. Why not just say that you like these politics that are abhorred by others and that the others should just suck it up?
