Duke transfer center Christian Reeves has narrowed his list to the following four schools : Vanderbilt Clemson Oklahoma Florida
Even though we may not end up with any of these big names right now I think it shows how our program is perceived in that we are being named often as a final 5 possibility.
St. John’s on back-to-back days just got commitments from 2 of the best point guards in the country in Deivon Smith and Kadary Richmond. Would the Gators consider trading Haugh for one of those guys?
very silly, Haugh has a chance to be a special player here at a position of need. Coaches love what that young man brings. He has good upside with a terrific team first attitude. If he and Condon stay for 3-4 years they will turn this program around on a consistent basis. As a coach I think I enjoyed how those two played as much or more than any Gator in a long time. Super tough with high motors. Fran Fraschilla got it right when he did our game last year that if they were to rate the freshman class again, both of those guys would be top 50 players. and I know you were just joking (at least I think I do ), but seriously Haugh has a chance to be special and there aren’t a ton of players that I would trade that dude for. He has that Will Yeguette factor where he impacts winning in so many ways.
Obviously, I was joking, but Deivon Smith had five triple doubles playing in the Pac 10 last year, which is the most in the history of the Pac-10 and second most in the history of the NCAA. The other guy is considered to be the number one player in the transfer portal. My point really was for people who follow college basketball that St. John’s needs a power forward, and has two of the best point guards in the country whereas Florida needs a point guard.
exactly! And Yeguette had those injuries that took away some athleticism. But he was so good in so many little areas. Haugh is just like that. Athletic and long and has a chance to be really good all around player.
I remember reading that BD was looking at the top high school players in Florida and was asking a coach he trusted about the big names. That guy said, no, the BEST player in the state was Will Yeguete, who didn't have all the flashy numbers. BD was glad he listened.
That sounds like a nice story…but unless Wills coach was his father, Brandon Knight and Floridas Patrick Young were both 5 star players out of Florida in the same class. Will was ranked a 3 star and the 230th best player in his class (and 16th best in Florida). Will was not the best player in the state per every basketball expert in the land and results in college and professional hoops confirms that. Like many high school kids he had some good stats though (Will actually had flashy numbers - 17 points and 15 boards a game is quite flashy) Will was a fun ,good, and nice college player. A glue guy that helps teams win championships. I would imagine Donovan and staff did a lot of recruiting and film review on their own. But I cannot imagine any honest coach saying Will was the best player in Florida high schools that year and that as how Billy found him. But…I guess anything is possible.
then again whoever said wasn't that far off....Patric Young never made the NBA and Brandon Knight in what should be his prime at 32 is playing in Greece. Point is these "experts" ranking players sometimes (often) know far less than coaches do
