Oh, really ? I see reports like this every damn day. Sure, the same is true in US government schools. But it’s arguably even more pronounced in Blighty.

 

20 years in Education over here. I've never once been visited by the "woke police" or told to do/say something that was plainly ridiculous.
I've always encouraged critical thinking skills and human values at the core for the children in my care.

If anything, teachers tell the politicians to "do one", over here.

I absolutely would. Sadly, I'd need to win the lottery. For now, I work in US Pro and NCAA Sport so I cannot complain - it affords me a few trips over each year. Vegas in a few weeks, hopefully Pennsylvania in September.

Stamp Duty is a tax on buying houses, not selling.
You don't pay CGT on your primary residential property
SD is also not payable on a property up to £250,000. The average price of a house in the UK is £280,000 so most face a minimal tax charge. If you're a first time buyer, it's up to £425,000 free of stamp duty.
Plus, if you do pay it - it's only 5% on the next tranche up to 975,000! So a £700,000 residential house would set you back £22,5000 in stamp duty.
975k gets you a LOT of house in the UK compared to an average house price of £280,000!

The people moaning they have a £2.5m property in West London, which, if they bought it 35 years ago, they'll have no mortgage and it will have appreciated in value immeasurably. That is all money in their bank account, waiting to be crystalised. Perhaps if they weren't so jammed up their own rear ends to realise, £22,500 to rough it my recommended downsize would leave them a paltry £2.47m to get by on for the essentials of house buying or around £1.77m in left over cash.

Laughably stupid article. The only reason they're not moving is principle, not mechanics. They do not NEED a £2m house in a downsize. It's a reuse to cover their own greedy backsides, which is fair enough - but let's call out this BS charade for what it is.

I cannot explain enough why you guys need to stop taking the Telegraph as gospel. It's by the rich, for the rich and has ZERO bearing on the majority of how life happens over here...
