I confess, I was totally ignorant of the Chinese May Fourth movement, which has nothing to do with George Lucas. Started in 1919. Student led intellectual patriotism, best I can tell on first read. Adam Tooze has more Yen-dollar volatility, soft commodity collapse & China's May 4th movement at 105.
We can't beat China because some woman found a different pair of panties in her bed? Now, I'm really confused.
Great listen (podcast episode). Hoping the e-book will come to library or hoopla. Much to think about
The U.S. awfully bellicose for a country with a military is falling apart … America’s security and prosperity is at high risk today, largely because of bad policies backed up by too weak armed forces. Consider our U.S. maritime complex. Decades of neglect and inadequate investment have left our shipping, shipbuilding, Navy, merchant marines, ports, and Coast Guard woefully behind the times. The Secretary of the Navy and a growing group in Congress are sounding the alarm, drawing attention to the plight of our weakened maritime sector. https://realclearwire.com/articles/..._starts_with_a_maritime_overhaul_1029809.html

An expert claims that China's economy is headed for a "dead end" and says that Beijing will not do anything to stop it. They refuse to loosen government controls over industry, and believe that the answer is to dump goods on the world market for dirt cheap prices. Forecast: repression. China’s economy is headed for a ‘dead-end,’ and Beijing won’t do anything to stop it, scholar says
China at risk of deflating. Should get their export business back on track though but the US will enjoy cheaper prices and better profits. Separately I bet they regret unwinding the US dollar holdings so aggressively. The Rocket Fuel Behind China Shock 2.0: Weak Currency, Deflation
China is using a coercion campaign against Taiwan, trying to intimidate the small island into trading political concessions for peace, and slowly taking the country over that way. The US is worried about an invasion, but China could take control of Taiwan without firing a shot, war experts warn
China is spending more on food, sport, and leisure (low cost items), and less on everything else. Their property crisis continues to get worse. Chinese shoppers are buying less than they used to — but they're spending on experiences
If China's thinking about invading Taiwan to get their hands on working chipmaking equipment, they may be wasting their time. Apparently, the Taiwanese have installed a "kill switch" on the machines that can disable the machines remotely. The world's top chipmakers can flip a 'kill switch' should China invade Taiwan, Bloomberg reports
Talk about a completely inadequate navy! China apparently has little or nothing in the way of amphibious ships to invade Taiwan. It looks like they are planning to maximize the carnage (of Chinese soldiers, not Taiwanese) by bringing troops ashore with ferries! Looks like having the world's best destroyers isn't doing China much good if they have to invade with tin bathtubs. The Chinese military may be even dumber than we thought it was, if that's possible. China is counting on eliminating all resistance at the coast before they send in the ferries/floating coffins. China preparing armada of ferries to invade Taiwan
I see the putin pumpers are now spamming this thread. Good to see people ignore him here too. What a maroon.
