I am a Democrat and was dismayed he was selected UF President. Felt selection committee lied when they said he was the most qualified candidate (over 9 sitting Presidents at major research universities?) But I agree with him - if you want to protest at the Plaza of the America's OK. But don't disrupt classes or vandalize. And you miss classes it is on you.
Was at graduation today and was actually surprised to only see a couple of palistine flags unfurled on stage.
Another ridiculous comment from another who has let Trump get way too far in their head. I’m a Republican and not a fan of Trump. And I know a bunch of others who feel the same way I do. Back to the OP, Sasse knocked it out of the park with his CNN interview and UF is quickly becoming a model for how to successfully handle these campus protests while safeguarding First Amendment rights.
Fixed it for you: "Sasse knocked it out of the park with his CNN interview and UF is quickly becoming a model for how to successfully handle these campus protests without safeguarding First Amendment rights."
I'm a lifelong pub too but any party that demands fealty to trump left me behind. Refuse to recognize the results of 2020 election and commit to only recognizing 2024 results if djt is declared winner. how can you support that?
When people can’t differentiate the likes of Sasse from DeSantis/Trump, it’s hard for anybody to take them seriously on issues like this. Apparently things have stayed orderly at UF, unlike at UT Austin where Abbot sent in the police and arrested everybody right off the bat and bragged about it.
University presidents? Yeah... I wonder why he's no longer a Senator in the RED state of Nebraska. Sorry but the Grand Ole Party is dead, and it's never coming back.
When I was at UF I thought of the plaza as UFs version of speakers square at Hyde Park. Then they started paving it. At first I liked the idea of paving the trails we made thru the grass. Until I realized that students didn’t want to walk on concrete and the administration never did.
I was at UF this past weekend for graduation of my youngest niece. The fifth and last niece/nephew to graduate UF. The protestors were well away from the graduation activities. Also, from what I can see, the protest group is much smaller and actually appeared to be student-age, unlike other campus riots/protests I have seen. For example, there were numerous grey-hairs in the videos of clashes on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus. UF seems to have been spared so far, but I really think universities need to crack down on the presence of non-students on campus during this time. I also thought it was funny Sasse needed an "entourage" to steer him where to go. I swear this "president" barely knows where the O'Connell Center and Ben Hill-Griffin even are, let alone the Plaza. Dude is a total political puppet and complete embarrassment to serious academia.
Yeah, in my mind I see a bunch of chucky dolls smiling at me when 3 or 4 libs give me the funny reaction to a post.
