Let’s get this done Gators! We have a great chance to take the series today so let’s stay after’em every single out of the game!
Sully’s post game remarks regarding today’s pitching, He said if Coppola is ready and feeling good he will start the game. He will start Cag’s if Coppola is not up to it but will not bring Pierce in as a reliever. He said Coppola has to go through his routine and will only start but will not relieve pitch. If Coppola can start then Cags will come in at some point. Also stated situational hitting has been discussed and worked on in practice but that the players aren’t bringing it to the game. He said all year they have been working on 2 strike batting but that some guys won’t make the necessary changes during the game. Specifically pointed out Cags approach with 2 strikes, he changes his grip and approach and that’s why he is so successful. Just a couple of informative nuggets for us couch enthusiasts. Shelton leads the team with 59 strikeouts on the year Shelnut at 55 Kurland at 55 Evans at 54 Heyman at 49 And then you have Cags at 17.. Sully said Cags just changes his approach with 2 strikes. Pretty evident by these numbers. Cags must be fun to coach, a kid with generational talent and also a coach able listener.
Absolutely… And Donay has similar range. He can learn to be and has learned to be better at the plate.
It really puzzles me that Evans has got as good a power as he does to RCF but he swings & misses with a dead red pull swing on sliders.
Here’s something else about this series. Yesterday was the first Gator win against the Vols in Gainesville since 2019. If we win the series it will be the first Gator series win against the Vols in Gainesville since 2015.. Ouch..
Not to beat it into the ground, but here is a list of batters who have struck out the most in SEC play. 1. Colby Shelton-UF 36 2. Gavin Grahovac-AM 34 3. Alan Espinal-VU 33 3. Ty Evans-UF 33 3. Dakota Jordan-MS 33 6. Cooper Mcmurray-AU 32 7. Luke Heyman-UF 31 7. Tyler Shelnut-UF 31 7. Cade Kurland-UF 31 10. Ethan Petry-SC 30 10. Hunter Hines-MS 30 10. Matt Garcia-MO 30 13. Jared Jones-LS 29 13. Evan Sleight-UA 29 15. Slate Alford-UG 28
Other than Cags, these are the guys were are counting on the be the offense this season. Here's hoping they can improve in this area going forward. They have the talent.
Big Dgator That’s 5 of the top 9 strike out leaders in the SEC.. I just can’t imagine why they are nearly a .500 team. This is seriously bad in that it is correctable but not being corrected. Robertson has a high strikeout rate but hasn’t had the number of bats or he would be on the list.
If one looks at baseball game at a time, it becomes easier to understand. Gators have five on that list, Tn has none, but the Gators had 11+8 K in yesterday's games, Tn had 13+16. Cumulative stats for the season provide an interesting perspective, but sometimes raw numbers don't explain the big picture.Gators have better cumulative offensive stats than opponents, but some wins have been by big margins, while most losses have been close. If one's goal is solely to justify complaints or praise, raw stats will do the job, but may not help one understand what is happening with the team. For example, Donay and Yost struggled badly early, but are making contributions right now. The same can be said with others, too. There is only one player on the team who has been consistently good all year, for him, raw stats tell the story fairly well.
In scramble mode. Radar looked like sure fire rain and a late start and then "poof" the rain is gone. Hope we can make first pitch. Got to believe Sully is planning either Coppola or Cags to start and pitch to the inevitable rain delay and then the other guy comes in after the rain.
Agreed Lurk—and based on Sully’s previous comments he wants to keep Coppola in his starter mode so that he can go through all of his routine without being rushed like a relief situation. So I would expect Coppola to start with Cags coming in when necessary.
Totally disagree. Baseball is too random to figure it out one game at a time. One always tries to play the odds and over a season it matters. That is the beauty of the game. It isn't like football where the better team wins 95% of the time. There has been one NFL team with a perfect record and many college football teams with perfect records but there will NEVER be a MLB team or a college baseball team with a perfect record. (ADDED IN EDIT)And one game at a time doesn't account for managing a pitching staff.
If they expect a long rain delay Coppola could get a starter's routine coming in after the rain. It is all up to Sully. Either way should work.
