drone attack targeted a warehouse with parts used to turn dumb bonds into long range guided glide bombs. that's some accurate intel and targeting.

Ukraine's secret drone blitz hits Russian refineries and military tech (msn.com)

The Ukrainian publication Defense Express, which focuses on military affairs, notes that this attack, particularly on the military airport, which initially went almost unnoticed compared to the refinery strikes, could have deeply impactful consequences for Russia.

Evidence from satellite images and videos circulated on social media indicate that a flight control center and a warehouse suffered destruction in the attack.

Crucially, the destroyed warehouse contained stocks of UMPK kits, which are designed to convert conventional aerial bombs into guided gliding bombs. This weaponry, which has been frequently utilized by Russian forces in Ukraine, presents a significant challenge to the Ukrainian defense forces.
    ................................
The report suggests that, besides Su-34 bombers, the Ukrainian drone strike might have also resulted in losses of Su-27 and MiG-29 fighters stationed in the Krasnodar area. While the full extent of the damage remains uncertain, available footage shows jet engines in operation, indicating attempts to relocate the remaining aircraft as part of a rescue mission.

This is irritating. For those unfamiliar, Ben Wittes has organized a “special operation” for years to embarrass the Russian embassy in DC, usually by projecting Ukrainian themed light shows on the outside walls. They also plant Ukrainian symbolic sunflowers in the public beds outside.

But they were prevented this weekend by DC Metro Police, who were prepositioned on the scene with what appears to be a legally false interpretation that such plantings violated the DC Code.

You need to read the whole thing. Knowing Ben, he will take it to court and prevail.

When Did the DC Metropolitan Police Start Working for Vladimir Putin?

Wonder if they’ll get to the bottom of who made that pre-emptive “order”? Very questionable use of police resources to say the least.

It seems crazy to think of Russian assets in the D.C. police, but the practical reality is there are lots of dirty cops who would do something like this for very little money without even realizing that small bribe makes them a foreign asset. Look how little it took to pay off that FBI agent who was actually higher up supposedly fighting Russian organized crime. Barely 6 figures to corrupt an FBI agent. Someone from the Russian embassy could probably find a city cop to guard a flower bed for… a box of donuts. Not exactly a sophisticated counter-intelligence operation. But I’d say it’s odd enough that it needs to be explained.

Good thought. I bet you it's a payoff as opposed to a policy decision.

Years ago, I flew in a small Russian-built passenger jet from Uzbekistan to Kazakhstan. I did not see any plastic on the airplane. It was all metal, wood, and cloth. o_O

Ukraine has certainly made the most out of subterfuge and fires. Two diesel locomotives burned up in Crimea over the weekend and another fire at a manufacturing plant

Fire erupts at Russian army's key supplier KAMAZ plant in Tatarstan (msn.com)

Afire broke out in the assembly hall of the KAMAZ plant in Tatarstan, Russia. Known as a major equipment supplier for the Russian army, this incident marks another significant event in that region of Russia.

The fire news was shared on Telegram and the X platform, with photos and videos depicting columns of black smoke billowing over the KAMAZ plant in Naberezhnye Chelny, Tatarstan.

A Telegram channel, Crimean Wind Post, highlighted that the company is a leading provider of automotive equipment to the Russian army.

LOL in the thirty five year old trope of Soviet technology is s*** cans … while Russia is dragging Abrams tanks, to their new living museum of captured or destroyed US wonder weapons, like a dead cat across asphalt.

russian ew gps spoofers are making jdams (precision bombs) lose their efficiency. apparently the f-16's can boost the gps signal to overcome the jammers..just another way theu can help without having to be in the fight.

US Precision-Guided Munitions Compromised by Russian Electronic Countermeasures (msn.com)
The GLSDB, boasting a range of 90 miles, had been designed to leverage GPS and inertial navigation systems for target acquisition. This method, however, has proven vulnerable. Daniel Patt of the Hudson Institute, during congressional testimony in March, emphasized the significant decline in effectiveness of GPS-guided Excalibur rounds—from 70% to 6%—over a few months due to Russian EW. The Hudson Institute also referenced Jack Watling of RUSI, who found that Russian EW attacks have deviated GMLRS missiles off course and successfully countered GPS-guided Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAMs).

Russian EW tactics employ GPS spoofers which broadcast false location data to GPS devices, often overpowering the original signals due to their relative weakness. The ease of creating such spoofers with contemporary technology poses a substantial threat to the GPS-dependent armaments that were largely designed in a pre-spoofing era.

Electronic countermeasures deployed by Russia saturate the front lines. According to Bryan Clark, every six to nine miles, truck-mounted systems focus on jamming drones. Despite these challenges, there are munitions in the U.S. arsenal, such as the Harpoon missile, that remain less susceptible to GPS spoofing. Additionally, Clark suggests that Ukraine could consider jamming Russian systems, which utilize guidance akin to the JDAM’s, and therefore can be similarly misled.

The sophistication of Russian EW capabilities has prompted considerations for alternative deployment strategies and munitions. For instance, the U.S. could supply more advanced munitions, like the JASSM, which have not been provided due to their longer range and the political implications of potentially striking targets within Russia.

One potential workaround involves launching weapons from F-16 fighter jets. Ukrainian pilots are currently flying Soviet-era aircraft incapable of transferring navigational data to JDAMs. In contrast, F-16s possess this capability. Ukrainian pilots are expected to be trained on F-16s by the end of the year, potentially allowing for more accurate munition deployment.

You sure are stubborn. For every U.S. tank being dragged across the asphalt like a dead cat, there are 1,000 Russian tanks being dragged across the asphalt like a dead cat. Russia has lost 5,000-6,000 tanks in this war. They are losing the tank war with the U.S. by a score of at least 5,000-5. Even if you count all of the Leopards and Challengers and other western tanks, Russia is still losing the tank war by about 5,000-50. Even if you include Ukraine's Russian tanks, Russia is losing the tank war by about 5,000-1200, and about half of Ukraine's Russian tank losses were made up by tanks that Russia abandoned and Ukraine rehabilitated. So, at best (for Russia), they are losing the tank war by about 5,000-600.

This from the source that had twice as many Russian KIA as had been inserted into theatre at that time.

The figures you regurgitate are spectacular exaggerations that do not accord with Ukraine’s longstanding admission that it is greatly, almost exponentially outgunned and also the Western observation that it is Ukraine, not Russia, that has been throwing itself against indomitable defenses.

But lest you miss the point, I TWICE posted reports that Abrams were being so badly mauled that they have been pulled from the frontlines.

From the beginning you have badly (purposefully ?) misread this war. Your like the guy who picks up War and Peace and reads Peter Rabbit.
