Surprised to see Bowers slide down to 13th. The damn Vikings could have drafted Bowers, but instead drafted a stiff at QB who probably won't make it in the NFL.
Speaking of sliding down, Spencer Rattler just went to New Orleans with the 150th pick in the 5th Round. Is he better or worse than Mertz in your opinion?
Wow we are in the middle of the 5th round and Pearsall is the only Gator selected thus far. Does this speak to Mullen's lack of recruiting?
He is all bluster. Played in a weak conference and achieved what? Ten years from now, no one will remember his name. Just my opinion, though. I will respect yours, just disagree.
I don't see either player as an NFL QB. Maybe a clipboard holder. Rattler, imo, has the higher upside due to running ability, but Mertz is a more solid QB/decision maker.
as a Viking fan I love the JJ pick. He’s in the best situation of any of the QB’s that were drafted. Vikings have an elite TE already, so no need for another TE. I think JJ is going to surprise a lot of people. He’s got a great arm, accurate and can get out of the pocket. I certainly would have taken him over QB’s like Bo Nix who was absolute trash before he got to Oregon.
Good pt about Hockenson and it looks like they locked him in for another four seasons. I was thinking about Bowers being a generational talent. I hope you're right about JJ. I might be thinking too much about the MI ground/pound offense. Thing is, we will have to wait a while for the next good Vikings QB to emerge imo. Cousins finally reached a point of being excellent in what seems like the last two seasons. Before that, he never felt like a championship QB. Well, he reached that point and now he's gone, which is disappointing. Who do you think starts? Darnold? Mullens? They can't put the rookie out there if they want to win now.
I was hearing people yap so much about McClonkey and he went out 34th which is the second round. Pearsoll is so $. Good for him. Does anyone know what that translates to in folding money? Bonus and annual; roughly? Gop Gators
Most of FSU’s high draft picks were portal kids. DE, DT, WR, RB. … highlight perhaps that Napier’s Army was less effective evaluating and recruiting top portal talent than FSU. Torrance and Ricky were high picks for UF but not the overall quality of the FSU portal the last two years
I think Darnold will start. He's finally with a team that has weapons around him. He’s never going to be a great QB, but I think he’s a good bridge for JJ. Sam is the perfect example of a QB needing to sit for a while his rookie season. The Jets I believe really messed him up bad, because the Oline was a disaster, no weapons around and it completely destroyed his confidence. He hasn’t been the same since. JJ needs to sit and learn. He’s got a great offensive mind in O’Connell coaching him. What do you think they will do with Jefferson? He’s going to want a huge contract. Do you put all your money into that 1 guy? You also have Addison, who could be a number 1 on any other team. I understand about the apprehension of McCarthy, because Michigan was a pretty run heavy offense. But his numbers are pretty solid and when he had to make plays he came through in the clutch. He threw for nearly 3,000 yards last years, 22td's to 4 INT's and over a 70% completion % which to me is pretty impressive. He obviously had a lot of weapons around him, which he will also have in Minnesota. To me out of all the QB's drafted, he's with the best team that can help him develop into a very good QB.. All these top 10 rookie QB's coming into the league have defensive minded head coaches, which to me can be a negative sometimes.
I think Mertz is a good QB that's in a system that fits him. Look at what he did before he got to UF. I think under the right situation he could be a solid game manager at the next level. Spencer is one of those guys who has tremendous arm talent and athletic ability. When he was at Oklahoma he had issues when it came to how he carried himself. Very arrogant and a terrible teammate, and that showed up on the field. He transfers to SC where he grew up a lot and became a great teammate and a fan favorite. He dealt with one of the worst offensive lines SC has ever had (we've had some bad ones) and still came up with some big games. Obviously, his issues is decision making. He can make any throw on the field and when he is on his game, he's a great QB.. But when he's making questionable throws and turning over the ball that's his bad side. I think Rattler has a very high ceiling, but I think coaching at the next level is going to be the difference in him being a starter or a career backup or 3rd string. I'm not a fan of him going to the Saints, because he's got a defensive head coach. He really needs a coach that can help him be the best he can be.
