But in line with much popular sentiment. A lot of "free speech on campus" movements from the Right are really "students should be more intellectually open to white supremacy on its merits" arguments.
That’s exactly how a campus protest should go down, props to them. And what their head said to their detractors is 100 percent true, you have the right to not feel intimidated but not the right to not feel uncomfortable. Which seems exactly how the protesters behaved in how they presented their argument. If every protest were like this one it wouldn’t even be a story.
The Plaza of the Americas survived Brother Jed Smock, it will survive this. Plaza has 75 years of stories to tell
I was young enough that the Vietnam war ended before I graduated high school ion 76. I do remember a lot of what went on with student protest through the years, being a short bike ride from campus growing up and my mother working more than 30 years in Tigert Hall. Great memories of Gainesville and UF in those days even with all the problems of the times.
Just want to make sure I understand. You're arguing that we should deny people a government benefit or privilege because of their speech?
I was on campus when Angela Davis and Jane Fonda gave seperate speeches on the lawn (different dates) while William F Buckley gave a speech in the UA. What is the big deal?
Was there. Can confirm laughing. also a ton of cops everywhere. Like everywhere. At a respectful distance but a hefty presence.
Arrests are being made, classes cancelled, graduation activities cancelled all because of their free speech? Seems like there would be more to that.
