He has been good at special teams (except fielding kicks), so I'm not sure he will be prompted to leave.
is he a good blocker or something on special teams? He made 4 tackles last year. 1 in 2022, 1 in 2021, and 1 in 2020. That doesn’t scream good at special teams to me (and you mentioned that returning kicks didn’t work out). He has already graduated. He has 7 tackles in 4 seasons along with 6 catches prior to the position change. I guess he is a team player or practices hard. Which can be nice. But…it is more likely that the coaches, in changing his position from WR, to safety, to LB, to rush end….are actually trying to get him to leave on his own by switching to a position every year that he has never played and then never takes the field playing. but at what point is a 6th year player (he redshirted in 2019 and got a Covid year) who has already graduated - who has really not done anything on the field - the responsibility of the coaches to keep around at possibly the expense of a new player with potential? NIL is a new world. Sadly, coaches who keep non contributing players around will likely win less than those who don’t. It is a new era of college football and that may be a sad change but it is what it is.
Billy G is the same lazy recruiter he has always been. Just not very successful developing relationships with HS kids and in portal. Hear he is very involved with his players while in college and years after as well. Just can’t relate to kids he is recruiting on phone or during visits. Passion for recruiting appears gone
Do you think we’re trying hard for a WR, or are they content to ride with who we have? Back on the spring portal thread I said something like ‘now we get to see how tight our team really is’. My biggest hope was to see Billy’s roster stay home and not fall apart in the spring portal. And with the exception of a LB with an apparent attitude problem, our guys appear to be doing just that. So we’re over 85 now and seem to be in the mix for the OL from USCw (which to me is a higher priority than another WR at this point). Billy has clearly prioritized the value of team chemistry to the point of not wanting NIL to undermine the team — so while pulling another Pearsall out of the hat would be nice, I wonder if he is more concerned over not disrupting the team he has. With good coaching and passionate disciplined effort from our current roster, I can’t see how we could have another losing season — which is clearly the make or break criteria for CBN’s future at UF
Well GC has an article on the Home Page that UF was pursuing the kid, and it made the podcast rounds. I guess the kid going to Syracuse has everyone up in arms that UF did not "get him".
The "popular" UF think tankers seem fixated on the receiver group as needing help. That certainly may be the case, I certainly do not know. Shane Matthews supports grabbing a "good one" from the portal to help Eugene Wilson. I am a bit worried about Andy Jean, he is struggling with injury, and the word out from the spring observers is he was struggling a bit to meet expectations. The new kids and the "speed" they are claimed to have excites me. I'm ready for a "Quezzie Green" type to show up again, thats for sure!
I am not an evaluator but the HS film I did watch and a film clip during Spring training were... okay. Hope he excels though.
