I think we’re cool. As far as adversity I think these kids are and have gotten tons of it already and they will be sooo much stronger next season because of this seasons trials.
It was just one of those games. Two of your best fielders made errors that came before the Home runs, I believe. The home runs were the frosting on the cake for FSU. Only four of those 12 runs were earned. The situation forced Liv to try to make the perfect pitch and she missed. I am not alarmed about this game, they happen in softball. Chelsey, Aric, Francesca and Tim will have them coached up for the UGA series. I am optimistic for this weekend. You can call me a fool, but I still believe.
What are your thoughts after the FSU debacle? Not a good start to "finishing strong". Hope they regroup and come out focused for the trip to Athens. By the way, Warren Nolan has dropped us to #17 in his RPI rankings, FSU at #12. Georgia is at #6, Taxas A&M #9. Tough sledding for our team.
Tough sledding ahead, no doubt. You guys do numbers and I’ll do optimism and belief. We all want the same thing. Go Gators!
In the last nine games, Gator pitchers have given up five or more runs in eight of them. I think they currently have a major pitching problem.
If it weren't for American Idol, I'd have already cancelled YouTube TV until August. Won't pick it back up then either if the new all sports offering comes in August as was announced a few months ago, lawsuits might stop it. My last thoughts on softball are too many walks/hit batters and lack of timely hitting with important batters in prolonged slumps.
I didn’t frankly understand pulling Ava. Obviously I wasn’t privy to conversations, but it didn’t appear to be warranted at that time. I felt the visit to the mound by Dobbins with Wooten was badly timed. Wooten appeared to just have gotten her pitch in line when Dobbins interrupted the flow and the next pitch she threw well anyway… Our defense was a mess. I still say the bench is deep stop riding and dying with the same girls. If it’s not working out, use someone else. Change things up a little. Georgia is going to be tough.
thoughts about moving wallace to leadoff, if the other team pitches around her your leadoff batter is on base in the first.
Excellent point. Coach Walton has given all the players opportunities to win starting jobs or earn playing time at various times during the season. Cassidy McLellan is out for the rest of the year with a shoulder injury, which I think someone mentioned a week or so ago. She was a good contributor and had been getting more playing time until she got hurt, I think, in the Mississippi State series. She played some RF, 2nd base and DP, was hitting .333. Emily Wilkie has been getting more opportunities lately and has done OK, but is not the defensive catcher that Jocelyn Erickson is. Brooke Barnard has played some over the last month and got a big hit in 1 game, but is only hitting .150. Avery Goelz is a very good 1st baseman, but Ava Brown is a much better hitter. Goelz has struggled at the plate her whole career and is only hitting .185 this year. Baylee Goddard doesn't have a position to play and has been used as DP some. She's hitting .295, but strikes out 1 out of every 3 at bats. Aylssa Hovermale got beaten out for 3rd base by Ariel Kowalewski in the fall and is batting .267 in only 15 at bats so far. She may be one that I would liked to have seen more of, but AK has been very solid at 3rd and unless she DP's or replaces Mia Williams at 2nd, not sure where else she could play.
That would depend on the situation. In this last game? We have several girls capable of playing second base and right field. If the current defender is struggling that game put in someone else. The bench has been used extensively? I disagree.
Katie Kistler has made 2 errors in almost 4 years....and has made spectacular plays many times. So when she makes her third error of her career (and first of the season) you feel she should be pulled? I'm sorry, but that is madness. Players commit errors....all of them. And yes the bench has been used extensively. You can disagree if you like, but there really isn't a debate here. Every player on the roster has double digit game appearances and most have appeared in at least half of the games. FYI...you reference "in the last game", "we have several girls capable of playing 2b". IF you actually followed the game you might realize we pinch hit for our 2B during the game......you know extensive use of the bench. But you knew that right?
wow. Why so rude? I was at the game so I do know exactly what’s been happening at second base. I’m also a fan of Kistler and have been for years so you’re attack on me regarding that doesn’t really hold water. And thanks for the permission to disagree with you. I do.
Appaently you don't know what happened at 2B since they did exactly what you are clamoring for. I'm not attacking you on Kistler, I'm pointing out the absurdity of suggesting an elite defender get pulled for making an error....something any person that understands baseball or softball would recognize. The tone of my response mirrors the tone of the post I respond to.... yes you are still welcome to disagree, and yes you are still unable to support your argument in any way
AK is a really good catcher. She showed that in fall ball. If Jocey needs a break and AK is hitting better than Wilkie, I would not think twice about her. Of course, that is when Jocey is at 1B. Hovermale is a head-scratcher.
Seven games left in regular season. I think to get a top 16 seed they need to win 3. Top 8 out of question unless they win the next two series plus a couple of wins in SEC tourney.
Miller pitched two perfect games earlier in the season. Her future looked great. Do we know why she’s struggled since then?
Just tossing this out....I think Ariel is in the conversation for shortstop next year. She has played short some in travel. Ariel has said she loves playing third though. Given the events of this year, I don't think Mia gets a free pass for it although she certainly will also be in the hunt. Gabbie Comia is a shortstop. I haven't seen her play enough to know if she is capable of moving right in during her freshman year.
