Well it is now scientifically proven that liberals are smarterer. Case closed! :) Don’t come at me for the title.

Psychology researchers at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in a new report published below on Science Direct’s website found, through numerous intelligence tests, that being more clever "is correlated with a range of left-wing and liberal political beliefs."

"Our results, imply that being genetically predisposed to be smarter causes left-wing beliefs." Duh! :) :) :)

Write up: Intelligent people are ‘more likely to be left-wing’

    Article: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0160289624000254

    Highlights
    • Within-families, intelligence predict left-wing beliefs
    • DNA-based predictors of IQ also predict political beliefs within families.
    • Our results imply that being genetically predisposed to be smarter causes left-wing beliefs.
    Abstract
Intelligence is correlated with a range of left-wing and liberal political beliefs. This may suggest intelligence directly alters our political views. Alternatively, the association may be confounded or mediated by socioeconomic and environmental factors. We studied the effect of intelligence within a sample of over 300 biological and adoptive families, using both measured IQ and polygenic scores for cognitive performance and educational attainment. We found both IQ and polygenic scores significantly predicted all six of our political scales. Polygenic scores predicted social liberalism and lower authoritarianism, within-families. Intelligence was able to significantly predict social liberalism and lower authoritarianism, within families, even after controlling for socioeconomic variables. Our findings may provide the strongest causal inference to date of intelligence directly affecting political beliefs.

Yup. Settled science. Let’s hire more midwit lefties to go on paid medical leave.

Why Are Intelligent People More Prone to Mental Illness?
    .

Studies have also found that higher IQ is associated with more mental illness, including depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder

One large study led by Mensa, a society whose members must have an IQ in the top two percent, which is typically about 132 or higher. The team asked about many factors, including mental health. They discovered that mood disorders and anxiety disorders were extremely common among Mensa members

I didn't need that research to know that. No intelligent person can support Trump or any wannabe dictator. Those in Congress who do, do so for the worst of reasons.

The right will cry "elitism", but that's just reveals that while they may, on the whole, be intelligent, that is usurped by insecurity.

    indeed!

With over 40 years of research to support their findings, a team of British scientists was slightly surprised to learn that people with higher IQs are much more prone to drug use.

The Cardiff University team consulted data from 8,000 people in the 1970 British Cohort Study, a group of human lab rats born in the same week in April 1970 and surveyed approximately once every five years about a broad host of topics. The results found that subjects that tested above average on IQ tests at age 5 were twice as likely to have done hard drugs within the past year, when asked at age 30. The smart kids weren't just smoking pot, either; the numbers suggest that they prefer cocaine and ecstasy. White doesn't know exactly what caused the difference but he has a good guess. "The likely mechanism is openness to experience," he writes, "and, I think, it's also this idea of having an educated view of risk as well."

LOL. We're not talking about either the top 2% nor the bottom 2%, but the great swath of average intelligence. The article clearly says why the 2% have the mentioned disorders. In any event, they don't impact decisions about what is best for the country. As I suggested above, the overriding point is that intelligent people tend not to support Trump, and those of lesser intelligence do. (Notice I said "tend".)

I think in all seriousness there’s something basic psychologically facing here. People have very different reasons for heir beliefs so of course it doesn’t apply to everyone, there are smart people across the spectrum.
But intelligence is also associated with adaptablity. And republicans are the party that historically have liked traditions and for things not to change, democrats are the party that generally push societal change. So that basic difference helps separate people.

Yep. I've had smart dogs and dumb dogs. My smart dogs were always more neurotic and nutty. My dumb dogs were just dumb and happy. Being smart is a burden.

Is it possible that higher IQ people drink because of their frustration with lower IQ people? :emoji_thinking:

That is some of the dumbest shit ever spewed on THFSG. I feel dumber for reading this. Is it all you liberals do is try to slap each other on the backs and feel like you are smarter than everyone else. YOU are the problem. There is never a cool, calm dialogue where you listen to the other side and THINK if they can possibly be correct. I challenge myself all the time to open up and listen to other points of view. I have never learned anything from someone that agrees with me.

In related news these conditions are not present in people with Down’s syndrome or Trump supporters which is not meant to be redundant.
