I won’t for a second try and change your faith or lack of faith — it’s not for me or anyone else. But to say there is no place for it discounts the fact that most of us need something to provide answers for questions not even asked. My beef is when religion is weaponized and exploited. In the end, we are probably closer aligned than we each think.

Wow, so the President said something that I disagree with? No way! So IF trump said similar you would believe him also? Come on man. IF Israel wanted to indiscriminately bomb Gaza, they would've leveled the place in an hour if they wanted to.

Oh, so "indiscriminate" is all or nothing, eh? I'm not going to call you ignorant like you called me, because I honestly don't know what you are. But whatever it is, I've had enough of it. Over and out.

Seems like Israel is busily working out how many different wars it can lose, at one time, while not igniting WWIII.

Iran was a secular democracy with no intentions of taking over the middle east. Then we overthrew their democratically elected government and installed a theocratic dictatorship intent on carrying their message across the entire middle east.

And therin lies the paradox of human "civilization" (what an Oxymoronoic term btw). The reality being, that human constructs called "Gov'ts", controlled by very few wealthy people, whom arm themselves and their acolytes to the teeth, create hellish propoganda to suck the uneducated into their agendas, draw imaginary geographic lines of "political demarcation" and are CONSTANTLY (from the time of Sumer, and long before) fighting with each other over every imaginable issue, but primarily GREED and RELIGON.

This insanity remains unabated to the present day. Evolved? ....... My Ass .......

The struggle for survival has changed from neolithic spear chunkers, whose primary enemy was the natural world, to a species that can launch the James Webb, build the Hadron Collider, and split the atom, but tribalism is just as powerful as it ever was, albeit on a much larger, and powerful scale now.

I'm of the opinion that despite what Secular or Religous persons tell us, Humans are an out of control species, like Australian (plague) rabbits, have no control over their breeding habits, shit in their own bed for profit, and killing and "taking" whatever they lust over, or does not belong to them.

This behavior is played out every day, by individual citizens and by entire Gov'ts. This appalling behavior is reported ad nauseum by the media (with relish and for profit), and proves that when it comes to taking care of our "house" and "ourselves" that tribalism, greed and religon destroys any chance of world wide cooperation
for the betterment of our species. What is the saying? To many Chiefs and not enough Indians?

I wish citizens around the world would better appreciate the thin veneer of human (civilization) and (ECOLOGY) - or lack thereof, and require higher standards for leadership and cooperation among our many tribes.

The theme of my posts on Swamp Gas, for years, is that the planet, nature, the solar system and the milky way galaxy offer SUPREME challenges for a species that has barely risen from complete barbarity and ignorance (The industrial revolution and all that followed is considered to have started in England in 1760). 264 years. Not even a blink of the eye in terms of Evolutionary Biology or Geologic Time.

NATURE will be the ultimate arbitrater of piss ant human interneicine tribal conflict. Our species will rue the day we did not better accept and use the gifts of the rennissiance, the enlightment and the industrial revolution in intelligent fashion, when those challenges present themselves.

It's just the way it is.

Technically we installed a secular nationalist/monarchist autocrat, which was overthrown by popular opposition, culminating in a theocratic government and the taking of American hostages

I think he is talking about the revolution before that, when the Shah came to power.

Well, the Shah was anything but a theocratic regime. And the Shah was an expansionist?

His point is not entirely missed. The Shah was abhorrently corrupt and so the people were ripe for a change. Which is why people should really heed caution with the blank checks for Ukraine, etc.

wg - You are bad to the bone with the descriptors big dog! Like your style. Now try my way: Eisenhower was in cahoots with Multi National Oil concerns
and (Can you spell B-R-I-T-A-I-N) in a well orchestrated (junta) takeover of the existing Iranian Gov't to "Protect Western Geo-Political and Energy Interests".

While by no means "expert" on the subject I have studied enough about it to recognize Western Imperialism when I see it.
Most Americans see Iran thru the "Hostage Crisis Lens", while the Ayatolla was a particularily nauseauting religous fanantic,
the story has two sides. Just as the creation of the Jewish state had and has, two sides.

While Islam and the religous zealots in control of Iran make me want to vomit, Iranians had a pretty good reason to oust the Shaw and
go anti American / anti west considering the events that unloaded post 1948. The shaw being particularily STUPID with his gratuitous demonstrations of power and wealth, while holding an unsteady set of reins during his corrupt time in power.

I guess he forgot about the part where the US had killed three Russian generals by bombing the Russian Consulate in Canada before they telegraphed the 300 missiles at us.

on a side note, what a great test of the defense system. I mean how often does a missile defense shield like that get tested, let alone perform so well. Hopefully something like that could be provided to Taiwan should it ever be needed. You think China was watching that show? And now all those drones and missiles can't be shipped to Russia. Think of the intel the US, Israel, and others involved got out of that test. How much AI was used in that shield will be a good story one day. Silver lining and all..

without going too far down a rabbit hole, how does any religion which claims to be the only way to salvation, not be in conflict with others that claim the same. That core tenant of most religions, is the root of the conflict. I am right, the rest of you are wrong; do as me or be damned for eternity. That tenant creates conflict regardless of a leader who uses the rest to enrich themselves.

I’m not a theologian by any means, but I don’t know of a core text that outwardly says words to the effect that these words are the only ones that count. By way of a quick example, Look at how many subsets there are of Christianity,
Itself. The same is true of Muslim. And Judaism.

All of the texts are open to interpretation and study. That is where birth of exploitation takes place. That’s the danger.

It seems to be an unending cycle Hamas bombs Israel. Israel obliterates the terrorists. The survivors hate Israel more than before and start bombing more.
