What makes this commitment even sweeter is that he was reportedly being recruited by Kentucky, Gonzaga and UCLA. That’s a very nice recruiting win by TG.
Condon can play that spot, as well, and is likely going to be much better offensively than Alexis, but I agree that we are probably done in the post.
I expect Condon to get most the minutes at the 5. Let’s say 22-25 min a game and then Alexis and Haugh to get the majority minutes at the 4.
This recruiting win by TG should be no surprise since Chinyelu’s coach at WSU was Kyle Smith who TG is very close with. TG was Smih’s assistant at San Francisco before Smith left for the WSU job.
he also officially visited Florida in 2022 as he seriously considered UF orignally before choosing WSU. I am sure that prior interest in UF and knowing the coaches already was a huge help.
I see Condon mostly as a 4, with Micah (taller) and Chinyelu (bigger) at the 5 spot. Alexis backing up the 4, and Haugh backing up the 3 and 4 spot. Either way we have options.
If/when Micah is available, sure, but that’s more of an “if” than “when” at this stage. I actually like Condon at the 5. His defensive rebounding and block rates were better than either Handlogten or Samuel. He can play both spots offensively, but I prefer him at the five defensively to playing more in space against fours. Until Handlogten gets back, I see Condon starting at the five with Chinleyu behind him and probably Alexis starting at the four with Haugh behind him, if only because I think Haugh will be ahead if Alexis defensively and you want rotations to complement each other. I could even see Alexis and Haugh together in some pairings off the bench, as well as Chinyelu and Condon.
I’ll go on record now and say it’s not only a when but he’ll be back in time for the end of summer workouts…back on the court in October
