You are always quick to generally tell everyone how much you know and how stupid the rest of us are. You post an absurdity on an opinion board, but only want agreeable responses? OK, I get it.

Recent Doug J. Balloon Tweets (there are 100s) that share the Berliner worldview, except that DJB is being satirical:

Lots of people like it. Its designed to make liberals feel good about the power of education & having good people/role models in positions of authority to eliminate poverty and racism. Big surprise our teacher liked it! Not that I have a problem with teachers or anything lol. The simple fact that we pointed this out was enough to make him end the class for the day.

I am sure I am one of the many suckers on here, but I can only do my best. I’m mostly interested in how can we know when posters are the suckers? If two posters disagree on, say, the optimum minimum wage, how do we know which one is biased? The answer logically cannot always be “it’s obvious”, because everyone believes their own views or else they wouldn’t have them. While you are convinced that NPR’s treatment of Hunter’s laptop showed liberal bias, others on here don’t agree and likely believe that you are biased. I’m not saying they’re right, or that truth doesn’t exist, but if we are going to dismiss a claim, we need a better argument than just “because they’re obviously biased.”

Some things are more grey than black and white. It's not grey to know that NPR's CEO is far left. It's also not grey to know that NPR leans to the left. How far left is up for debate. Do you not think it was interesting that NPR didn't question pretty much anything doing with Covid that went against what the cdc/biden admin/fauci/walensky were doing? NPR sure questioned the trump admin(rightfully so) on some covid issues. They didn't do their job as a news organization by questioning the lockdowns, school closures, mask efficacy and myocarditis in teen boys just to name a few issues. I'm not talking about way after the fact I'm talking about 2020-2021. Huge issue for many people.

I must be doing a poor job communicating because I feel like I’m making an uncontroversial point. Basically, I am just suggesting that to judge bias, or anything, we need standards. If someone were to ask, is driving dangerous?, Id suggest that the right answer is “compared to what?”

If someone were to quiz posters on here on ranking how far to the left are two posters, probably we come to some agreement on their relative position, but what we would not solve is which one is biased. What I would do is simply compare attitudes to the variety of Americans, like we do with children’s height and weight. Still not a perfect solution, since measuring “leftness” is not nearly as simple as measuring height, but at least we don’t have to count only on our own idiosyncratic views.

    A suggestion on the issue.

Decide what you believe the facts are on the Hunter Biden laptop, at least as to his issue. Look up how NPR actually reported it, not his summaries on either.

    Decide for yourself.

Parenthetically, I can tell what he's talking about, because it's RW talking points.

I don't believe your point is controversial or being communicated poorly. I think most agree with what you are saying but I also think most agree that certain responses to questions or beliefs held, make you left or right. I also think that certain positions make you far left or far right and I think that is widely accepted. It's nuanced positions that causes opposition on how someone judges how far left or right you may be. Problem is as you said, there is no independent, unbiased source to be the judge so it is left up to each of us to do that on our own. If an overwhelming majority has come to the same conclusions, then that is pretty darn good evidence isn't it? IMO

For me, and comparing your takes on this thread to many of yours in the past…
You seem to be playing professor instead of giving your honest opinion on this particular topic.
It’s no biggie to me but it stands out against most of your history.
Seemed like an easy one to agree on for people who try to be objective and moderate.

I disagree with you on both. You are articulating your point well and it isn’t controversial. I just think you are looking for a level of precision for a comparison that is difficult, if not impossible to measure. I think all just know by observation that NPR leans left. Some think the lean is moderate, some think heavy, some think all the way. I think most people stop giving it thought at that point. I know I do.

If I look out the window and see rain, it doesn’t make much difference if we get 1/4 inch or an inch. I’m not going to spend a lot of time finding out. This is the case of course, unless I wash my car, manually run the irrigation system or add water in the pool the day before. Then I know it’s probably 1 1/2 inches or more.

NPR has a ton of coverage of real Hunter Biden news stories. You are upset because they didn't talk about that particular unverified Hunter Biden story?

I think the issue here is you are discussing two very different terms with different uses (noun versus adjective) and meanings. Bias and Biased .... are not the same. I think it's much easier to determine a bias ....... than if someone is biased. Having said that .... I believe most honest, intelligent folks can identify a set of data which can be used to determine if someone is biased.

For instance ...... say someone continues to proclaim an old 1983 Yugo is more reliable and would outperform a new Lexus 350 even in the face of verifiable objective data. I think most could reasonably conclude the Yugo fan has a bias for Yugo products.

Hmmm... I must be naive. I took it as a look what you can do with hard work and determination story along with having a supportive mentor that cared enough to help you.

Did you read their justification? It sure sounds like a fair assessment considering the only thing they could do without access to the data themselves is repeat the NY Post claims.

They point out a number of concerns about the origins of the laptop, chain of custody, and "reporter" that published the story (i.e., a former Hannity producer with almost no journalistic publications). There was ample reason to be skeptical of the NY Post story.

They were, however, transparent about the existence of the story, what it purports to claim, and why they don't think it would be responsible to publish.

Since you weren't voting for either candidate, and didin't have a dog in this fight, I would think you would side with journalistic integrity.
