Yes, people burdened for decade with crushing debt should "learn to do better" but when it comes to PPP loans or virtually anything for big business, just make it all go POOF, baby!

Also, I want to live in a society where people who handled a bad deal themselves look at people who came along later and got a good deal think to themselves, "Hey, good for them." Not, "Screw them, let them suffer like I had to!"

Well when you consider that for most of us who received PPP loans it was a lifeline to keep the business afloat, while the government mandated, we shut down. If you are stupid enough to go 100 of thousands of dollars in debt to get a degree that doesn't provide you access to a job/career that you can pay it back then yes, I have an issue with that. I wonder how many of them have very nice living conditions, nice car, latest iPhone, internet and streaming services? I also wonder how many are actively working fulltime jobs? I have no problem with anyone having any of those, but if you want us to foot the debt bill, you have to have done your part.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it before the real irony is that Joe Biden was one of the architects of the 2005 Bankruptcy Reform bill that made discharge of student loans through bankruptcy much more difficult. At the time Biden represented Delaware in the Senate the state where a number of lenders/credit card issuers were domiciled. Old Joe who wasn't that old at the time was much more concerned with the interests of lenders rather than borrowers.
How Biden helped create the student debt problem he now promises to fix
The Republican-led bill tightened the bankruptcy code, unleashing a huge giveaway to lenders at the expense of indebted student borrowers. At the time it faced vociferous opposition from 25 Democrats in the US Senate.

But it passed anyway, with 18 Democratic senators breaking ranks and casting their vote in favor of the bill. Of those 18, one politician stood out as an especially enthusiastic champion of the credit companies who, as it happens, had given him hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions – Joe Biden.

If it was family, their company, inheritance, etc that allowed write off of the debt then yes, others with debt should be happy for them. But not if it’s tax payers $.

I'm ambivalent about this one. On one hand it seems like people should have read the fine print. However there was predatory lending and by giving people some relief, they can spend more in the economy.

Compared to a tax cut largely benefitting people who did not need it left us holding an 8 trillion bill that did nothing for GDP.

I also think about the GI bill which supported millions to get degrees and much of the middle class benefitted from it. I know it helped my dad after Korea.

I have an acquaintance with a construction business that got a PPP loan, had it forgiven and used the funds to buy his 3rd rental house. He has a nice house, a new phone and a tricked out pick up truck. But you don't care about that, right? Because he's a business owner and not a working peasant, no need to judge his lifestyle when he gets cut a break, right?

I’m opposed to it, but Biden still gets my vote. He’s the only candidate running in my eyes.

Joe could have my vote just by getting an idiot like Donald Trump to run against him. Biden is by far the lesser of two evils. The college loan "forgiveness" is a foolish waste of money that will drive up college costs in the long run. I don't know anyone who supports it except for those with college debt and their parents. But it is much preferable to the devastation that Trump is forcing on society, the nation, and the world.

The sad thing is that no one is forcing Trump on the American electorate. If the American electorate chooses "devastation," then that's what it is, a choice. Unless, of course, Biden wants to claim that the election was rigged and attempts a coup to stay in power.

Is that remotely close to what I said? Was there businesses that didn't need the loan and took advantage? Absolutely! Was there plenty of business that remain in business today only because of the loan then forgiveness? Absolutely. I might add that when we applied, we had no idea that it might be forgiven. We had 14 employees that we were trying to keep on the payroll so they could have some income. Once we opened up again, we put aside enough to pay back loan overtime and was willing to pay back. We applied for the forgiveness of loan and received it. With that we in turn gave all of our employees raises. You obviously have only ever signed the back of a paycheck and not the front. You obviously haven't gone years trying to build a business, surpassing on receiving any paycheck except to pay bills to keep the business afloat. You obviously do not respect what small business owners do in employing millions of people across this country. You are probably one that believe electricity just come from the plug you plug your phone charger in, or that milk comes from Publix. This acquaintance of yours, do you have any idea as to whether he owns any of this "stuff" outright or is he gambling on himself to work hard enough and create enough business income that he can afford to keep what he has? Probably not, envy is a bad thing unless you use it to motivate yourself to take the risks needed to hopefully be successful as a business owner.

    Life isn't fair. Whaaawhaaa!

I don't like the payoff of student debt, but cry me a river. There are more important things to get your panties in a whad about.

although I oppose paying off students debts, I do have empathy for so many of them. 19-21 year old young adults not fully understanding life, get saddled with 10s of thousands of dollars in drat. And college degrees are watered down these days and don’t necessarily equate to big $.

It actually is only for federal loans, not the private predatory ones. My one son had a $20,000 private loan to go to a small audio engineering school. I co signed and I ended up having to pay it off because of course the career field went a little belly up because of the recession (2009) and he was struggling to make the payments. The school and the loan were ripoffs.

I think Biden wins, but Kennedy is the issue. The republicans are spending tons of money to support him in areas where Biden may have a weakness to sway undecideds or those who don't agree with Biden on a key issue like Gaza. trumph must have seen the interviews with Kennedy supporters who said they would vote for trumph is Kennedy bowed out. This could be a catastrophe for Biden if they are successful in swaying enough one issue voters.

No one is forcing Kennedy on the American electorate either. IMO the bottom line is, America come November will get what it deserves, i.e. what it willingly chooses. And if it's Trump, America will damn sure get what it deserves, i.e incredibly enough, what it wants.
