Always liked him. Just read that he carried 63 of 67 counties in his 1998 Senate re-election, and I honestly did not remember that despite having been more plugged into Florida politics then than I am now.
Agree. Obviously just a guess a possible explanation is that Bob Graham may have told Carl Hiassen that he was so fed up with corruption in Florida politics especially the state legislature that he had a fantasy about chucking everything and just disappearing into the Everglades.
A lot of guys still left from that time are like "you mean I could have paid off pornstars and still become president if I had only been born like 20 years later?"
