I don’t know about the commitment, but the one everyone is talking about is Elijah Martin, 6’2”, 210lbs combo guard. Looks tough, muscled, great driving to the basket, decent three point scorer. Would be a great addition, good on defense.
I'm surprised that Ballo chose Indiana. Being a foreigner, he probably was sold on their 20th century pedigree, not the reality of their being a hidebound, moribund program for 20 years now.
Oh yeah, I know about him I was just confused when I heard "FAU commit", as I wasn't aware of any commitments.
You think that’s something! When I played for Binghamton, I was given a card that let me eat for free in the snack bar.
depends who they are and how much they're making, some of them are out of hand too...but when a guy making $1.2M to play in college isn't as good as 90% of G League players making 1/30th his salary, it's a bit crazy
Beyond that, do the math on value vs the NBA. The average NBA team has revenue of around 350 million dollars. A higher end D1 team might bring in 10-15 million. The median salary in the nba was 4.6 million last year. So essentially this kid is asking for almost a median nba salary to play in a league with about 3 percent of the revenue. Put another way, he is functionally taking a third of their total revenue by himself. That would be akin to an NBA player making around 120 million in a year. And apparently someone paid it, or got close, probably with money far outside what would normally go to the school. Someone is just burning their own money, ashes to the wind just to win at a game, because the financials of the sport itself don’t support the value even remotely. It makes zero sense.
