- Secondary needs to get sorted out. Seemed like a lot of confusion back there. - Jaden Baugh was ballin. Just a spring game but kid looks like he has burst and quickness. I wonder if he gets legit snaps this season. He looked like the back who the most potential to be explosive. - Lagway looked good. Can definitely see him taking flight in 2025. - Trey is going to be All SEC.
i expect we will see what we have seen in the past. You give BG some talented receivers and over a year, and you will have a very good receiving corp.
Seems like it rarely translates to what happens in the season. And we really don't even know what they're doing. Is it a dog & pony show?
Doesn't mean much, but the kick return specialist was very quick. No telling how it shakes out in real games, but I would like to find out.
Generally well executed on both sides, which is nice. The O earned the yards they got, rather than blown assignments or tackles. Positives: Like everyone else said, Baugh looks like an instant impact RB. Wilson is a clear #1. Mertz and Lagway had some nice touch and accuracy. Was good to see Denson bounce back from getting beat some with a nice INT. Negatives: Pass rush wasn't great. As far as back up PK I was reminded of Semi-Pro...
I was high on both freshman RBs. Think Baugh ends up with more carries than Webb. 238 lbs and quick. I always think we will be good. But this is going to be a 8-9 win team maybe 10. We are better at every spot and could have won 7 or 8 last year. I am confident, QB,RB as good as any. DBs much improved. We have 3-4 WRs that can play. Feel very good about the new coaches.
That pretty much sums up my sentiments as well. While I didnt think Baugh was as fast as I thought he would be, he did however show an ability to cut back and run North and South......none of the backs were really able to get to the perimeter today. I thought Napier intentionally allowed for Mertz to put the Blue in a position to win today, as the final seconds ticked of the clock.......too many possible reasons why he did so, for me to guess why other then he intentionally allowed it to end that way.......otherwise everything I saw today was just pure vanilla offensively and defensively.
Watched the full game on YT on 1.5x speed and I gleaned the following: -As mentioned Lagway looks like the real deal. Offense seemed to run faster and better when he was running the show. -I saw tackling. Even some good tackling from the secondary. DL played with speed and energy. Though no great pass rush. -We have a good stable of RB's. Otherwise just a Spring game. Watching Mertz throw those screens/slants again and seeing those up the middle runs did however bring dark flashbacks from last year. We have a lot of good talent but the play calling this year must be better if we have any chance at a winning season.
Our defense must be better. Your "play calling" routine is complete rubbish. Jeebus. When the offense is moving the ball on the defense in the spring, and early in the season, this is not a good sign for the D. The D should always be ahead of the offense, early on, if they are any good.
In the second half the DL took over to some extent, still there was probably more downfield passing than we have seen in the BN era, which I choose to believe presages more of the same going forward. I'm aware of the tenuous nature of things in CFB, especially in the spring. Starting Monday, the world will quake for many programs over the next little bit. Depending on how many leave and who they are, we may get lucky and retain the core team we saw today, plus a few strong pickups and a few fully healed injuries ready to go in the fall. The game itself was fun to watch and I love the young talent and the solid portal class BN has assembled to this point. We all still smart from losing so many flips on ESD, but FTR, we still have a really strong class to go with the first two BN classes, plus whomever we get from the portal. In my eye, the talent level on this team is better than it's been since DM and TG decided they really didn't need a lot of real LBs or many DLs either, now that you mention it. We are still not going to be a dominant team in '24, but a good season that culminates in BN's best recruiting class yet for '24 could make us a match for all but the very best rosters out there. I wonder what we could look like in DJ's third season.
