It’s rained here today all day with more expected the next two days.
Tonight we’re going with Ms. Jan’s homemade chicken n’ rice.

Like I said cool and damp so a tumbler of Knob Creek small batch 100* will work well tonight.

I love frog legs. If you've ever been to The Yearling Restaurant in Cross Creek, they have great ones there, lightly battered and fried.

When I was a kid my dad got on me for only ordering hamburgers and the like when we went to restaurants. So, we went to DiMaggios (yes Joe) for dinner one night and I said @&$?-it and ordered frog legs Italian style. They were really good

    Back from my travels.

One dish I had on travel sounded weird but was really good. It was walleye with a creamy piccata sauce on a bed of mashed potatoes.

I am going to make that with a few tweaks. I will use mahi instead of walleye and make a regular piccata sauce instead of one with cream in it. I make my mashed potatoes very creamy and so I think that a cream sauce on top of that is overkill.

Got to restock my freezer with Vienna Beef hot dogs and scored three jars of authentic Chicago pickle relish. I bought every jar the supermarket had. There is nothing quite like it.

Like I said in the game thread I am making authentic Chicago dogs for game day fare. I had to make my own poppy seed buns.

The cool thing about Vienna Beef hot dogs is that they come eight to a pack just like the hot dog buns. It always annoyed me that most hot dogs come six to a pack and the buns come eight to a pack. Seinfeld could make a good bit about that.

Boiled is the correct way to do them. Gold Coast Dogs in Chicago introduced the char dog and that is not what I remember from my youth.

The sports beer of Chicago is Old Style but way back when Hamm's was the White Sox beer.

Last night was Thai take-out and it was awesome. Today was finishing up taxes and taking my bridge lessons. I started playing duplicate bridge and know how to play the cards but need to know the modern bidding conventions.

Tonight I am making potatoes with peppers and chorizo. Actually not chorizo because the recipe calls for Spanish chorizo that is very different from Mexican chorizo. I will be using the Portuguese version of the sausage.

The peppers are cubanelles and jalapenos.

Tonight it’s going to be chili over rice covered with Sargento shredded sharp cheddar cheese.

Ice cold longnecks pair well with this….

Tonight was a treat for my Mom, who turned 93 today. She wanted lasagna bolognese with 4 cheeses, ground beef and Italian sausage, so we took her to Piesanos, which has the best in the area, IMO. She brought half of it home to eat tomorrow. I got the spicy Italian meat calzone, with 3 types of cheese, 3 types of pepperoni (one of them spicy), spicy Italian sausage, salami and ham. I brought half of it home to eat tomorrow. My wife got a medium pizza antico, thin crust with fresh mozarella, mini cup and char pepperoni and fresh basil and she brought half of hers home. Happy hour draught beer and their speicalty bread with garlic italian dressing dipping sauce supplemented the meal. All good. Then we went to Dairy Queen for dessert.

Tonight is chicken marsala over egg noodles. A salad with leftover escarole from the soup from a couple of days ago.
