Let me also be the first to apologize to you for the years when I kept posting that Mike White was a lousy coach and needed to be replaced. Sorry for the hurt that must’ve caused you.
I apologize if my tone seemed harsh tampa. Also, I was off the MW bandwagon in year 3 or 4 of his coaching career at UF. But he is gone so whatever. You will never see posts from me discussing what players' deficiencies are or how they stink at this, that or the other while they are on the team. In fact, probably until this year for the first time, there isn't one player on the team I can't wait for them to graduate/leave. I just don't vocalize it on the forum. For whatever that's worth.
How much did Shimmy 's injury really impact this team? I think if anything it accelerated the growth of Condon and Haugh to a lesser degree. Condon got major minutes right away. I think that served him well throughout SEC play. I don't know if they get that chance with a healthy Shimmy and I think Condon definitely has the highest upside of any big on this past years roster. Shimmy is a bigger body but he really struggled with the speed of the game last year on defense. He didn't seem to provide much resistance defensively, with just 1 block in 109 minutes of gameplay.
He did move his feet well on defense. The thing with Shimmy is that he might be a true high post big man, which is what practically every NBA team uses nowadays and should also work in college because it opens up the paint for guys like our guards of this year to get to the basket. I don’t know how Shimmy will do if he gets the playing time, but his pre-college film shows a guy with a really good outside shot who can also drive and pass. Plus, he had nice moves on offense down low, including the little fadeaway one-hander.
