https://www.thenation.com/article/activism/university-of-florida-green-new-deal/ The first public university in the country to adopt a mandate for a green new deal.
What’s in the deal? Additional electric car charging stations around campus? Windmills around the stadium? Dorms going solar?
10 people hold up signs claiming climate change mandates... News at 11:00. In other News, one man screams at the solar eclipse claiming it's racist.
I like the aspirational idea. And that they went into detail and took input from various groups without just yelling climate change!”. But how practical are their solutions?
Nonsense. A lot of nonsense. 2, 3, and 4 are never going to happen, and I don't see a strong argument for why they should. Your suggestions are all more reasonable and likely.
Libbies think it’s good, regardless of cost or practicality. BUT, UF is a different animal now, mostly made up of northerners, foreigners, nerds and super liberals…I hope they enjoy their newly expensive nerd world they’ve created. My children will move on to a more normal university.
That wasn't an accusation at your comment, I was answering your question. A lot of nonsense is in this "GND" resolution.
Funny stuff, OnBluke, but that's not the impression I get, and I say this having re-established connections with student body through my kids, their friends, and my friends' kids. Still very much a party school. Still vast majority = Florida kids. And the nerds and foreigners have always been there. Yes, more northerners, more nerds, and foreigners, but still very much the same Gator folk that were there when I was, in late 80's/early 90's (albeit admittedly smarter and more accomplished). The increased competitiveness means UF gets more accomplished leader types--not more introverted nerds. Overall, I see a vast improvement of the type that comprises the student body. Likable, personable, well rounded kids, not arrogant, condescending, or elitist. About the only decrease I see, is fewer hard core jock types, and fewer hard core partiers (who often failed out anyway, and thereby ceased being part of Gator Nation (stopped affiliating due to embarrassment or whatever, not kicked out; we dont kick ppl out of GN--just UF)). Jmho/fwiw.
Lol, the students don’t have to pay for this. These things sound great until you see the bill. It is kind of like socialism and communism. You are on cloud 9 about all the good you accomplished until the bill comes due. Then you are like:
Not big on enviro-fascism, but I do appreciate UF students taking a leadership role in a leading issue of the day. Par for the course for UF. GO GATORS!!
That’s great to hear. Thanks for sharing it. However, My kids still can’t get in anyways, so I’m sticking with my original perception of UF.
