It would hurt to lose him but he will probably get a lot of valuable insight into the process. I wonder if our NIL deal for him is competitive with pay for an UDFA.
Florida Gators standout junior guard Walter Clayton Jr. will test the NBA Draft waters. If he doesn’t like his options, he plans to play his final season in Gainesville. Clayton, an ALL-SEC performer this season, announced this news via Instagram on Monday. “I am grateful for being able to come home this past year and be a part of something special being built here in Gainesville,” Clayton posted. “With the support of Coach (Todd) Golden, Coach McCray and the rest of the staff, I want to announce I will be entering my name into the 2024 NBA Draft while maintaining my college eligibility for the option to return to no other than the University of Florida. Thank you to everyone for the support.” Great shooter, but I don't see him in the first 2 Rounds.
Smart move by him. Great opportunity to see where he stands. I expect he'll be back, but if he grades out as a draft pick, he should definitely go.
I'm not mad at it. If he has a good chance to get drafted, I'll wish him well. At least we know that he will be returning here if it doesn't happen.
I think this is more about getting feedback than him expecting to stay in the draft. At least I hope so.
Really needs to improve his shooting off the dribble. Basic necessity in the NBA. I think he can be a league player if he improves that area.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I don't see him being drafted. If he wants to get paid, methinks it will be overseas. Good luck anyways.
If Clayton returns, will Golden give him the chance to be the primary ball handler, which suggests that he would not recruit a one year point guard like Pullen.
I don’t know how much is is getting. But I would bet it doesn’t equal an NBA contract. Almost everyone wants to make more and provide more when they can.
