    In an effort to catch up to its democratic counterpart it looks like the GOP had a record amount collected at an event on Saturday. One thing is for sure.. it will be another record spent on campaigning.

    Trump's Campaign Said It Raised $50.5 Million At A High-Dollar Florida Fundraiser

    NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump’s campaign said it raised $50.5 million on Saturday, a staggering reported haul as his campaign works to catch up to the fundraising juggernaut of President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party.

    The reported haul from the event with major donors at the Palm Beach, Florida, home of billionaire investor John Paulson sets a new single-event fundraising record and is almost double the $26 million that Biden’s campaign said it raised recently at a gathering with former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

    “It’s clearer than ever that we have the message, the operation, and the money to propel President Trump to victory on November 5,” his campaign senior advisers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles said in a statement.

    The event, billed as the “Inaugural Leadership Dinner,” sends a signal of a resurgence of Trump and the Republican Party’s fundraising, which has lagged behind Biden and the Democrats.

    Amazing haul. Should cover his legal fees through Election Day.

    @flgator2 :

    Trump's invite to major donors prioritizes the committee paying his legal bills over the RNC

    “Donald Trump’s new joint fundraising agreement with the Republican National Committee directs donations to his campaign and a political action committee that pays the former president’s legal bills before the RNC gets a cut, according to a fundraising invitation obtained by The Associated Press.

    The unorthodox diversion of funds to the Save America PAC makes it more likely that Republican donors could see their money go to Trump’s lawyers, who have received at least $76 million over the last two years to defend him against four felony indictments and multiple civil cases. Some Republicans are already troubled that Trump’s takeover of the RNC could shortchange the cash-strapped party.”

    Are you resident Trump aficionados doing your part to contribute to his legal defense fund? I'm sure he appreciates every dollar.

    These people and generally I mean those small donors have to be abject morons to send money to a “Billionaire” to pay his legal bills. Room temperature IQ’s. As for that haul they are trying to buy themselves a president.

    Only in America.

    I don’t know what’s true or not, but whether it was donated or not, you know trump was going to claim it.

    This is great news for the down ballot Republican candidates. Maybe they'll see low 4 digits of financial support now instead of 3 after Trump funnels most of it to legal fees.

    Assuming the number is real, this will just pay his next round of legal bills. Which was why he organized it I’m sure. He is an idiot savant when it comes to getting other people to do his bidding.

    One of the possible remedies for this is that the "charity" will have to declare the "donations" as income (and pay tax on them) and donors won't be able to deduct them as charitable contributions.
